Full Job Description

Staff Accountant – HVAC & Home Services

Location: Tennessee
Job Type: Full-Time
Department: Accounting / Finance
Reports To: Controller / Accounting Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a growing HVAC and home services company. This position will be responsible for day-to-day accounting activities, month-end close support, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and maintaining accurate financial records.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of general accounting principles, is comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment, and can work effectively with accounting and field-service systems. Experience with Sage Intacct is preferred, and ServiceTitan experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

Perform daily and monthly general ledger accounting activities.
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments.
Complete monthly balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
Assist with the monthly and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Review revenue, cost of goods sold, operating expenses, and other financial activity for accuracy.
Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed.
Reconcile credit cards, bank accounts, vendor accounts, and other balance sheet accounts.
Assist with payroll-related accounting entries and reconciliations.
Maintain fixed asset schedules and supporting documentation.
Review transactions for proper coding and departmental or business-unit allocation.
Assist with inventory accounting and reconciliation.
Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and variances.
Support preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis as needed.
Maintain organized supporting documentation and accounting records.
Assist with external audits, tax requests, and other compliance requirements.
Partner with operations to ensure transactions recorded in ServiceTitan appropriately flow into the accounting system.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting accuracy.
Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
1–3 years of accounting experience preferred.
Working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
Sage Intacct experience preferred.
ServiceTitan experience is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data analysis, and reconciliation of large data sets.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with accounting and operational teams.

ServiceTitan experience is a plus.

Reliable financial information for operational and leadership decision-making.
Consistent accounting processes and strong internal controls.
Effective coordination between accounting and field operations.
Timely identification and resolution of accounting discrepancies.
