Cheney Public Schools serves approximately 5,300 students and encompasses the towns of Cheney and Airway Heights, an expansive rural area, and a developing industrial and residential area on the West Plains. The District covers 380 square miles.

Job Summary :
Cheney Public Schools is seeking an Information Technology professional experienced in working in a fast-paced environment demanding strong technical skills. This Assistant Director of Technology works under the direction of, and in close partnership with, the Director of Technology and is responsible for duties such as planning, developing, installation, configuration and maintenance of school district hardware, software and any related infrastructure. This includes the creation of all plans for ensuring functionality, data consistency, security and usability of systems aligned with the organization’s priorities and enabling company employees to do their work effectively. This role is responsible for diagnosing and resolving performance issues to ensure optimal performance and reliability. He or she will also be accountable for planning updates and maintenance of hardware and software resources to mitigate limitations and combat obsolescence.
This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: this position will be one of two administrators for the district. Each position will grow into their own duties and responsibilities while supporting the other.
This is a hands-on position with broad responsibilities that range from strategic and long-range planning and implementation of systemwide technology solutions and infrastructure, to occasionally providing general end-user support and training. Experience working in the education field is of significant value as school experience provides an understanding of how technology supports educational outcomes, where technology funding sources can be accessed, and knowledge that a culture of creativity and collaboration is essential to achieving the district’s mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position may include some or all of the listed duties, however, the listed examples may not include all tasks which may be assigned.
- Research and recommend server hardware and software; assists in installing, designing, configuring, and maintaining system hardware and software; analyzes and troubleshoots the event logs and tracks the nature and resolution of problems
- Monitor usage to ensure security of data and access privileges; installs, supports and maintains both physical and virtual servers and appliances
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot the Storage Area Network (SAN); establishes and maintains user accounts, profiles, file sharing, access privileges and security
- Perform and insure daily server backups
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of computer networks including hardware/software support, training, and special projects; plans, designs and implements data connectivity for local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems
- Assist and provide support to the Director and other technology staff as requested including performing scheduled system tasks, updating anti-virus definition files, monitoring servers, and providing internet and intranet user support, and specialized training
- Coordinate and implement standard cybersecurity processes to ensure the integrity of the District internal network and its resources. This will include, but not be limited to: virus protection, firewall or other protection from external threats, security for all computing devices (computers/PDA’s/external storage devices), internal IP subnets and routing, a secure password list of administrative passwords for all servers, workstations, and network devices, network monitoring, data backup, and user accounts.
- Coordinate and carry out the management and maintenance of web, email, scheduling, data, and file services, and the District servers on which these services are installed.
- Participate as a team member in the development and implementation of IT standards for hardware, software, and peripherals
- Participate as a team member in the development and implementation of procurement procedures for computing equipment and software
- Coordinate and participate in the troubleshooting and resolution assistance of District/K-20 connection problems.
- Strong skill in supporting applications and systems including hardware and software
- Strong ability to research and recommend improvements to the organization’s hardware, software and infrastructure
- Maintain inventory of hardware/software installed on the District network
- Strong knowledge of the following Infrastructure components: Telephony (PBXact), Servers (Hyper-V), Network (Juniper Mist), Backups (Veeam), Data Governance (OneSync), Application Integration (Classlink), Cloud Hosted Applications (Google Apps for Education and Microsoft O365)
- Strong knowledge in the administration and use of the following: Windows Server, Active Directory, Linux, Windows OS, Veeam, Hyper-V, Systems Center
- Strong knowledge with monitoring tools and client management tools
- Strong knowledge and understanding of patching methodologies and the ability to create new methodologies as required
- Train staff in network access and utilization
- Strong knowledge of mobile devices and device administration
- Strong skill in creating and maintaining technical documentation
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Technology Director
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate for the position (Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Management, or other equivalent technical credentials (i.e., CCNA/CCNP/Microsoft Admin Certifications)) or a combination of applicable experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of degree
- Minimum three (3) years proven experience in all areas of server management and administration including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, planning, designing, implementation, and user support; experience installing and supporting Microsoft server technologies; experience supporting network equipment
- Familiarity with the TCP/IP protocol, and able to calculate subnets, masks, and IP ranges for subnets
- Working knowledge of local and wide area wide area networks (LAN/WAN), e-mail systems, telecommunications and data communications; standard operating systems, software packages, and software utilities; proper records maintenance and storage for local and distributed environments
- Must be familiar with general server and network troubleshooting
- Experience in installing, maintaining and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Servers and desktop/laptop computers as well as online hosted applications
- Strong understanding and experience implementing, configuring, and managing network components, not limited to managed switches, management of multiple VLANs on the network, and management of an enterprise wireless network
- Strong understanding and experience working with MS Active Directory, group policies, security groups, and network login scripting
- Operational knowledge of MS Windows OS and Microsoft Server and Hyper-V environments. Experience with Linux/Unix and Mac OS X is desirable
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with and work well with all levels within an organization specifically working effectively within the culture and procedures used in educational organizations
- Highly organized with strong project management skills, and drive to meet district and departmental objectives; ability to manage projects on interrelated timelines
- Knowledge of classroom technology including projectors, document cameras, sound systems, assistive technologies, etc. preferred
- Knowledge of student data/school information systems preferred
- Experience with a variety of cloud platforms, including but not limited to, Google for Education (Google Workspace), Securly/GoGuardian, Classlink, Microsoft O365, Onesync
- Proven ability to negotiate and work with vendors and consultants
- Proven ability to work effectively with parents, community, and staff on various organization-wide committees, and Technology Advisory Committees
- Willingness to work outside of standard work hours as needed

Base pay: $98,753-$116,528 depending upon experience. Competitive benefits package per SEBB.
