Full Job Description

Focused Behavior Solutions, LLC is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join our growing team. We are looking for a detail-oriented, organized, and motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes initiative, and works well both independently and collaboratively. Focused Behavior Solutions is a rapidly growing provider of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services serving families throughout Washington and Nebraska. Our mission is to provide high-quality, compassionate care to children and families while fostering a supportive and team-focused workplace culture.

Position Overview

The Medical Billing Specialist will play a key role in supporting our ABA therapy operations through accurate billing, insurance follow-up, claims management, authorizations, and administrative support. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and experience navigating insurance portals, behavioral health billing, and payer requirements.

This is a full-time position with standard office hours Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Opportunities may be available to work from our Spokane, WA or Lincoln, NE clinic locations.

Responsibilities

Prepare, review, and submit insurance claims for accuracy, completeness, and eligibility
Process claims through electronic clearinghouses and insurance portals
Monitor and follow up on denied or unpaid claims
Research and resolve billing discrepancies and insurance issues
Review accounts receivable aging reports and assist with collections follow-up
Maintain accurate billing records and documentation
Verify client eligibility, benefits, and authorizations
Obtain and track prior authorizations and re-authorizations
Assist with insurance contracting and provider credentialing
Communicate with insurance companies via phone, secure messaging portals, email, and formal appeals
Assist with patient responsibility invoicing and payment tracking
Support internal billing audits and compliance reviews
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, payer requirements, and company policies

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of medical billing experience required
Medical Billing and Coding certification preferred
Experience with ABA, behavioral health, or mental health billing strongly preferred
Familiarity with CPT 97 codes, Medicaid, and secondary insurance billing preferred
Experience with Office Ally, Availity, and insurance portals preferred
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
Strong attention to detail and ability to problem solve independently
Understanding of HIPAA compliance and healthcare billing regulations
Experience with credentialing and insurance authorizations is a plus
Willingness to learn ABA-specific software systems and reporting platforms
