Full Job Description

Description

As a Spokane Public Schools staff member, you'll uphold our commitment to creating a loving and collaborative learning community where all students belong and thrive. This position provides onsite and remote support for Campus Safety Specialists at all elementary schools and secondary schools. This position is responsible for assisting in coordinating safety management plans and emergency drills for elementary schools as well as team building, and implementation of policies and procedures. This position will offer subject matter expertise within the campus safety program while developing and maintaining its training manual. Will provide specific support for departments such as OFCE (Office of Family & Community Engagement), HEART (Homeless Education & Resource Team), student services, and a point of contact for building administrators for initial problem solving. Position reports to the Campus Safety Director.

FTE: 1.0, 8 Hours Per Day

Anticipated Start Date: ASAP
-Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.

Responsibilities

Provides work quality and productivity assessments of Campus safety staff as directed by the Director of Campus Safety or designee. Monitors work quality and work progress; prepares reports and makes recommendations regarding work performance and training needs.
Provides on-site training, instruction, assessment, and demonstration of proper protocols for Campus Safety staff assigned to K-12 school sites.
Develops written, graphical, and video based training and procedural resources for Campus Safety staff development initiatives.
Works effectively with a diverse staff and student body and provide customer service, team-oriented, collaborative environment to manage and maintain care, welfare, and safety of students, staff, and community partners. Encourages and supports effective communications and working relations with Campus Safety staff, students, other district staff, principals, and building managers.
Manages safety support and documentation for district campuses in various remote locations, regarding drills and emergency procedures.
Actively demonstrates, monitors, and develops modern safety practices ensuring they are followed by team members while protecting district liabilities.
Willing to be trained in Threat Assessment to ensure district wide implementation with fidelity.
Establishes a strong working relationship with various District departments and a point of contact for administrators in school for problem-solving.
Reviews Campus Safety operations and planning to include evaluating and recommending improvements and efficiencies within the Campus Safety department, advises staff on procedures and preventative measures.
Conducts formal and informal employee training plans, and professional development opportunities in support of employee growth to meet the evolving needs of the network & infrastructure team. Acts as a mentor and facilitates learning opportunities for staff.
In partnership with the Director, develops and implements training plans and manuals for new employees, enhancing expectations for professional development to meet the evolving needs of the district.
Responsible for tracking, documenting, and issuing of district equipment to current and new staff.
Ensures reports are error-free and daily logs created by the team are accurate and filed in the assigned location and available to be shared with district leadership.
Performs research, compiles data, and develops specifications and reports related to materials, equipment, and work practices.
Participates and attends meetings and training classes including new hire orientation.
Maintains schedule flexibility; works irregular hours as needed to provide services to swing shift staff.
Conducts and participates in the screening, interview, and selection process for new hires in the Campus Safety Department.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Demonstrated ability and knowledge to execution of the job responsibilities listed.
Minimum associate degree with approximately five years of experience in the related field. Experience in managing individuals and having the ability to problem-solve and a good understanding of customer service.
Experience working with stakeholders such as building leaders, supervisors/managers, community groups, and other agencies. Have a working knowledge of district policy and procedures and all updated changes.
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both written and verbal form. Also, demonstrate proficiency using computers and other technology for incoming and outgoing correspondence.
Experience working with youth, group home, or youth group mentoring and fostering. Demonstrated ability to provide and foster a customer-service, team-oriented environment.
Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills, interacting with groups effectively, planning, setting goals, and guiding others toward accomplishments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
Understanding of multicultural and ethnic sensitivity and the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups.
Ability to prioritize a workload with multiple assignments and to make decisions with sound professional judgment.

Work Schedule – Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays – Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement Collective Bargaining Agreementsas negotiated.

Employees can choose from a lifetime retirement pension plan or a hybrid pension and investment plan that contributes between 5% and 15% of wages to retirement. When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension.
  - Employees can also participate in voluntary savings programs to increase retirement savings such as the DRS Deferred Compensation Program or by participating in a 403(b) retirement plan through the District’s plan manager, OMNI.
