Job Summary: The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading and delivering construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role provides strategic oversight of project planning, execution, and stakeholder coordination while mentoring project teams and driving best practices across all phases of construction.
The Senior Project Manager serves as an escalated point of contact in working with owners, consultants, subcontractors, and internal leadership to ensure project continuity, resolve issues, and align project outcomes with business objectives. With a strong understanding of construction, contracts, and regulatory requirements, this position plays a critical role in achieving operational excellence and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Strategic Oversight
- Provide overall leadership for multiple construction projects and/or major complex projects
- Guide project strategy and execution plans
- Mentor and manage Project Managers and site leadership teams
- Work with executive management to establish and implement PM and PE uniform processes
- Act as the senior escalation point for project issues, and disputes
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
2. Project Planning & Execution
- Oversee development and approval of project schedules, budgets, and work plans
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with scope, schedule, cost, and quality targets
- Review and approve key project milestones and deliverables
- Ensure constructability reviews and value engineering are performed
- Coordinate with General Superintendents to ensure project strategies, schedule, and budgets are executed according to plan.
- Meet with project team regularly to review and ensure project goals are met
3. Cost Management
- Maintain overall responsibility for project financial performance
- Review and approve project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports
- Oversee change orders and claims
- Support close-out and final project settlements and negotiations
4. Contract Management
- Manage client relationships at a senior level and act as an escalated point of contact
- Guide and review subcontractor and supplier contracts
- Lead high-level negotiations and dispute resolution at the project level
- Ensure contractual obligations are met by all parties
- Represent the company in high level Owner meetings as an escalated point of contact
5. Procurement & Resource Management
- Provide feedback to procurement team for procurement strategies and major package awards
- Assist project team in ensuring necessary resources are effectively provided to complete the work and achieve project objectives
6. Reporting
- Provide regular executive-level reporting on project performance
- Ensure processes, approvals, and documentation are followed
7. Close-Out & Post-Construction
- Ensure timely completion of punch lists and project closeout
- Manage post project reviews and lessons learned
- Ensure final documentation is completed and provided to the owner for closeout
8. Organizational Support
- Provide support and insight for bid preparations and pre-construction planning
- Assist in developing company standards, procedures, and best practices
- Build long-term client relationships
9. Estimating & Bid Preparation
- Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop detailed cost estimates.
- Prepare and oversee bid proposals for transportation projects, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes, negotiate pricing, and ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Identify and manage new bid opportunities across various advertisement platforms
- Establish and enforce estimating procedures, standards, and best practices.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on bid strategies and market positioning.
- Monitor industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to maintain accurate pricing models.
Qualifications:
1. Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field
2. Experience
- 8-12+ years of project management experience
- Proven track record of leading large, complex projects
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects, budgets, schedules, and resources
3. Technical and Construction Expertise
- Extensive knowledge of construction means, methods, and sequencing
- Strong understanding of:
Contract documents, drawings, and specifications
Cost estimating, value engineering, and change management
RFIs, submittals, change orders, and pay applications
4. Leadership and Communication
- Skilled in conflict resolution
- Skilled in managing project teams of all experience levels
- Strategizing and managing project teams to achieve or exceed objectives
- Subcontract and vendor management
- Strong client relationships and management
5. Financial Management
- Advanced budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
- Utilize current accounting systems to generate and analyze project financial reporting
- Experienced in claims management and documentation
5. Estimating
- Strong knowledge of FDOT specifications, transportation construction methods, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., AgTek, PlanSwift, ProEstimate) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.
