Timeframe: 52 Weeks
Shift: Monday-Friday, 8am to 4p.m. Will include some weekend and evening fill-in shifts.
Regular Days Off: Saturday and Sunday
Supervision Received: General supervision by the Library Director. Evaluation by peers and administrators in accordance with the MSCA/BHE Agreement.
Supervision Exercised: Supervises 14 hours of work by archival assistants.
Salary: $56,000 - $58,000 Annually (salary commensurate with education and experience)
General Statement of Duties:
The Instruction and Archives Librarian participates in the library's general instruction program and supervises the operations of the Westfield State University Archives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to:
Essential:
- Works collaboratively with the Information Instruction Coordinator and other librarians to develop dynamic user-centered instructional programming that emphasizes critical thinking, active learning, and high-impact practices, utilizing appropriate technologies.

In collaboration with academic department faculty, teaches information instruction sessions and provides research consultations both online and in-person, at the service desk, and by appointment.

Supervises operations of the University's small archives, managing accession and responding to requests for assistance. Oversees the work of archival assistants.

Works closely with the Digital Initiatives and Technology Librarian on issues related to the Westfield State University Digital Repository.

Serves as liaison to assigned academic departments for collection development, instruction, and research support.

Participates in professional activities, continuing scholarship, and will serve on university committees.

Continues professional development in the management of archives.

Works with external entities on archival projects and grants.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science or equivalent.

Experience providing research assistance to library or museum users.

Demonstrated understanding of current trends in library instruction, including assessment, pedagogy, and instructional technologies to support multi-modal learning.

Demonstrated excellent spoken and written communication skills.

Evidence of strong team orientation and a track record of successful collaboration.

Ability to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds and to foster a culture of inclusion.

Demonstrated understanding of archival principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing and implementing instruction or training in an academic library.

Experience working in an academic or museum archive.

Experience managing an academic or museum archive.

Salary:
Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
