Full Job Description

Clinical Director - LISW/LISW-S (Behavioral Health / SUD IOP)

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are an Ohio-certified behavioral health provider running an established intensive outpatient (IOP) substance use program with an active client census, and we are building out our mental health service line. We are hiring an LISW-S to serve as our Clinical Director - the clinical authority for the organization.

This is not a caseload-only position, and it is not an administrator-only position. You will carry clinical work you actually enjoy, you will build a service line from the ground up, and you will supervise and grow a team that already exists and is already delivering care.

Why this role is open: our clinical team is credentialed on the substance use side - licensed chemical dependency counselors, a licensed social worker, and chemical dependency counselor assistants. We hold certification for mental health services and we intend to deliver them well. That takes an independently licensed clinician with a supervision designation. That is you.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Serve as the organization's clinical authority. You approve assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, plan revisions, and discharge and continuing-care planning across the program.

Provide clinical and training supervision to our licensed social worker, including supervision toward their LISW - which your S designation makes possible. We are serious about advancing our people, and we will give you the time to do it properly.

Build and lead the mental health service line. Individual and group psychotherapy, community psychiatric supportive treatment (CPST), therapeutic behavioral services (TBS), diagnostic evaluation, and crisis services, developed against our certification and payer requirements. This program is yours to design.

Own co-occurring care. Build how we assess, treat, and coordinate for clients carrying both a substance use and a mental health diagnosis - today the largest unmet need in our census.

Carry a clinical caseload, including serving as the licensed rendering practitioner for an assigned IOP group cohort (ASAM 2.1), maintaining the required practitioner-to-patient ratio.

Lead documentation and clinical quality. Same-day notes, medical-necessity documentation, chart audits, utilization and concurrent review, and corrective action when the record does not support the care.

Drive national accreditation readiness (CARF, COA, or Joint Commission) - policy, clinical records, supervision structure, outcomes, and survey preparation.

Coordinate care with recovery housing, transportation, MAT prescribers, probation, courts, and referral partners - honoring and documenting client freedom of choice on every referral, every time.

Partner on hiring, credentialing, and clinical onboarding as the program grows.

WHAT YOU NEED

Current, unrestricted Ohio LISW-S (Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervision Designation), OR LISW (Licensed Independent Social Worker) verified on eLicense
3+ years of post-licensure clinical experience in behavioral health
Direct substance use disorder treatment experience. This is required, not preferred. Ohio rules condition an independent social worker's supervision of chemical dependency staff on appropriate SUD education, training, and supervised experience.
Training in supervision theory and practice, and in the legal and ethical issues relevant to counseling and psychotherapy
Eligible to enroll as an Ohio Medicaid rendering practitioner and affiliate to our agency
Clean OIG LEIE and Ohio Medicaid exclusion screen, re-run monthly as a condition of employment
Comfort with group facilitation and with adult SUD and co-occurring populations
Availability for one evening cohort block per week

WHAT MOVES YOU TO THE TOP OF THE LIST

Dual credential: LISW-S plus LICDC or LICDC-CS
Prior clinical director, program director, or supervisor of record experience in a certified behavioral health agency
CARF, COA, or Joint Commission survey experience
ASAM criteria proficiency
Co-occurring and dual-diagnosis specialization
Trauma-informed and MAT-supportive practice
Experience standing up a new service line rather than only maintaining one
Comfort in an EHR, with documentation that has to hold up to an audit
