Salary Note: Bilingual candidates are eligible for an additional $1.50 Bilingual Differential. This Bilingual Differential is not included in the salary range above. Bonus offered for exceeding fundraising goals.

Position Summary: The Development Director must be passionate about the mission of HIV Alliance and philanthropy and is an experienced leader who will inspire others, including staff, board and volunteers. HIVA currently raises $240k in individual, corporate and event donations and is seeking to increase this goal by 20% in the next 12 months. The Development team is responsible for resources development including donor engagement and stewardship, events, corporate giving, marketing, website and volunteers. The Development team is a highly collaborative team that works together across initiatives. The Director will supervise staff who are primarily responsible for event planning, marketing & communications, website and volunteers and will actively work to support their success. The Director will take a lead role in implementing strategic initiatives to increase funding and support, identifying new donors and strengthening relationships with existing donors.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Strategy

Collaboratively develop and implement annual development plan and strategic initiatives, including regional strategies, that engages donors/supporters, the board, staff and volunteers
Support the Directors team in meeting the goals of the agency
Ensure that all Development initiatives have clearly defined outcomes and impact goals and continually evaluate effectiveness

Administration

Support and supervise the development team
Stay informed about fundraising best practices and share those with board and staff
Ensure the quality of public relations and marketing for the agency
Collaborate with directors to identify grant opportunities
Maintain accurate donor records and financial tracking
Provide regular and accurate updates and projections
Participate in agency planning and strategy activities
Engage board members in development strategies and ensure accountability
Work with the Executive Director to identify, engage, recruit, onboard, and steward new board members, committee members, and other community supporters
Work with the development team to ensure agency events are successful

Stewardship

Build meaningful relationships with supporters and volunteers to strengthen commitment and increase giving
Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects and new donors
Connect supporters to engagement opportunities at HIVA and in the community
Represent the agency professionally and treat others with respect in all interactions
Ability to work well with others, handle stress appropriately, have reliable attendance
Ability to use personal cell phone to run agency phone system software, MFA, etc.
Other tasks as assigned, including training/cross-training other staff as needed

Required Qualifications:

TB test (provided at agency)
Valid Oregon driver’s license, or valid out of state driver’s license with the ability to get an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days of establishing residency in Oregon, and a driving record sufficient to be covered by agency auto insurance policy.
Ability to pass agency criminal background check
Two years of relevant experience in fundraising
Two years of supervision experience, including hiring, orientation, coaching, training and support
Demonstrated experience in program management and leadership
Demonstrated success building and growing both corporate giving (sponsorships, workplace giving, employer matches) and individual giving (major gifts, monthly sustainers, annual appeals) programs, with a track record of year-over-year revenue growth in each channel
Expertise in motivational communication and ability to craft compelling, story-driven messaging and dynamic marketing pieces and public relations narratives
Strong leadership skills & ability to set challenging & attainable goals, to set priorities, to inspire others to high levels of performance, & to leverage ideas into action
Experience in effectively prioritizing needs in a complex work environment with multiple and sometimes competing agendas
Proven strategic, organizational, planning and analytical skills
Excellent financial and computer skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Team player who is self-motivated, high-energy, enthusiastic
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a professional demeanor, and to represent the organization in a positive manner at all times

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to

Repetitively use hands, including grasping, twisting/turning of wrists, and finger dexterity to perform various necessary clerical duties, such as typing and writing.
Frequently use arms, such as pushing & pulling to open/close drawers, cabinets, etc.
Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time at an assigned station
Bend, stand, & reach to be able to transport clients and to lift and carry up to 25 pounds for tasks such as building kits & assembling testing/educational materials.
Use continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for processing of paperwork

Working Conditions, Travel, and Environment:

The duties of this job require individuals to be able to work in non-traditional and community-based settings. Additionally, the duties of this job include travel to other locations necessary to complete essential job functions, including the ability to transport self to job-related events and locations. This role requires regular reliable attendance, including:

Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
Ability to work 5 days per week for a minimum of 40 hours per week
Ability to work in loud, crowded, busy, or escalated environments
Ability to drive at night and during various weather conditions safely
