Ministry Function:
The Data Platform Engineer will serve the ministry of Convoy of Hope as the organization’s primary administrator and technical owner for Snowflake, our central data platform. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day administration, security, performance, governance, cost management, and ongoing development of our Snowflake environment. The role will support data integrations from several platforms within the organization’s data infrastructure. The position will also support BI dashboard development and API-based integrations. The primary focus is ensuring that Snowflake is secure, reliable, well-governed, scalable, cost-conscious, and useful to teams across Convoy of Hope.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as the primary administrator and day-to-day technical owner of the Snowflake data platform, ensuring it is secure, reliable, scalable, and well governed.

Administers Snowflake users, roles, privileges, warehouses, databases, schemas, stages, service accounts, and related platform objects.

Designs and maintains a scalable role-based access control model for departments, analysts, applications, vendors, and service accounts using least-privilege principles.

Manages Snowflake security practices, including access reviews, service credentials, SSO/MFA coordination, key-pair or OAuth-based access, and secure handling of sensitive data.

Monitors Snowflake platform health, warehouse activity, query performance, failed jobs, data availability, and integration reliability; troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Manages warehouse sizing, auto-suspend/auto-resume settings, resource monitors, credit usage, storage growth, and other cost-control practices.

Establishes and documents Snowflake standards for naming conventions, environments, schema organization, role design, warehouse usage, change management, and deployment practices.

Builds, supports, and troubleshoots data integrations from Dynamics 365, Salesforce instances, LogAlto, and additional enterprise applications as they are added.

Creates and maintains secure API-based data connections, including REST API integrations, OAuth or token-based authentication, JSON payload handling, flat-file ingestion, and related workflows.

Develops and supports ELT/ETL processes, SQL transformations, views, tables, tasks, streams, stored procedures, or orchestration patterns needed to move and prepare data in Snowflake.

Partners with application owners, vendors, consultants, TS leadership, analysts, and business teams to understand source-system data models, field definitions, refresh needs, and integration limitations.

Implements and supports data governance controls for donor, program, financial, staff, partner, and other sensitive organizational data.

Maintains data quality checks, validation processes, reconciliations, and issue-resolution workflows to improve trust in reporting and analytics datasets.

Partners with internal stakeholders to configure, support, and operationalize Snowflake capabilities for data validation, identity resolution, data quality workflows, and related platform use cases, while training technical staff and power users to use Snowflake CoWork effectively within established governance, security, and access-control standards.

Creates curated reporting layers, semantic datasets, and BI-ready Snowflake objects that support consistent organizational reporting and self-service analytics.

Build and maintain BI dashboards or reports as needed, while ensuring dashboards connect to governed, secure, and performant Snowflake data sources.

Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, access-request procedures, troubleshooting guides, integration notes, and platform support processes for long-term operational continuity.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Five years of experience in data engineering, data platform administration, data warehousing, analytics engineering, database administration, or a closely related role is required. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Snowflake certification preferred; SnowPro Core is preferred, SnowPro Associate: Core is highly desirable.

Strong SQL skills, including query optimization, views, stored procedures, data transformation, and troubleshooting.

Experience building and supporting data pipelines from SaaS platforms, APIs, databases, flat files, or third-party integration tools.

Familiarity with data from enterprise applications such as Dynamics 365, Salesforce, CRM systems, finance systems, HR systems, fundraising systems, monitoring/evaluation systems, or similar platforms.

Experience with REST APIs, authentication methods, OAuth, API keys, JSON, web services, and secure credential handling.

Experience creating BI dashboards or reporting datasets in Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or a similar BI platform.

Understanding of data governance, data privacy, least-privilege access, auditability, and secure handling of sensitive data.

Ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Strong documentation, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a growing enterprise applications environment.

Experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps, Power Automate, or other Microsoft ecosystem tools.

Experience with nonprofit, NGO, international development, fundraising, grant management, program monitoring, impact measurement, or donor reporting data.

Experience with data modeling, dimensional modeling, semantic layers, master data concepts, and metric definition.

Experience supporting data quality frameworks, validation rules, reconciliation processes, and data issue resolution.

Experience working with vendors, consultants, system integrators, and internal application owners.
