Traveling QA/QC Manager – Data Center Projects:
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Traveling QA/QC Manager to lead quality assurance and quality control activities on mission-critical data center projects for our client across the United States. This position is responsible for developing and implementing project-specific quality programs, coordinating inspections, managing quality documentation, and ensuring all construction work complies with contract documents, project specifications, applicable codes, and owner standards.
The Traveling QA/QC Manager works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, MEP leadership, commissioning teams, design consultants, owners, inspectors, and trade partners to proactively identify quality issues, drive corrective actions, and support successful project commissioning and turnover. This position requires extensive travel and temporary relocation based on project assignments.
Position Responsibilities:
Quality Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain the project Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Plan.
- Establish inspection and testing requirements for all project phases.
- Ensure quality processes are consistently followed by project teams and trade contractors.
- Promote a culture of quality through proactive planning, training, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor compliance with owner quality standards, contract documents, and company procedures.
Inspection & Verification:
- Coordinate and perform inspections for civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and specialty systems.
- Verify installations conform to approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable building codes.
- Coordinate hold points, witness inspections, and testing activities with owners, consultants, inspectors, and trade contractors.
- Monitor installation tolerances, equipment protection, and workmanship throughout construction.
- Verify corrective actions have been completed before work progresses.
Documentation & Quality Records:
- Maintain inspection reports, quality logs, deficiency tracking reports, testing records, and turnover documentation.
- Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittal reviews, inspection test plans (ITPs), and quality documentation related to project execution.
- Ensure quality documentation is complete, accurate, and available for owner review.
- Support document control processes related to commissioning and project closeout.
Deficiency Management:
- Track nonconformance reports (NCRs), punch lists, and corrective action items.
- Work with project teams and subcontractors to resolve deficiencies promptly.
- Verify completion of corrective actions through follow-up inspections.
- Analyze recurring quality issues and recommend process improvements.
MEP & Mission-Critical Systems:
- Coordinate quality inspections for critical building systems including:
- Medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution
- Switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, and ATS equipment
- Chilled water and HVAC systems
- CRAH and CRAC units
- Plumbing and fire protection systems
- Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Security, controls, and life safety systems
- Ensure systems are installed in accordance with commissioning requirements and owner expectations.
- Support pre-functional inspections, startup verification, and commissioning readiness activities.
Commissioning Support:
- Coordinate quality activities with commissioning teams throughout startup and turnover.
- Verify systems are complete and ready for functional testing and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
- Support equipment startup, owner demonstrations, and acceptance testing.
- Ensure all quality documentation required for turnover has been completed before owner acceptance.
Safety & Compliance:
- Promote safe work practices during inspections and quality activities.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings, field observations, and incident investigations as required.
- Coordinate quality activities without disrupting safe construction operations.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, MEP Managers, and field teams to maintain quality objectives.
- Conduct quality meetings with subcontractors and project stakeholders.
- Mentor field personnel on quality expectations, documentation, and inspection procedures.
- Participate in owner meetings and provide updates regarding project quality performance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field; equivalent construction quality experience will also be considered.
- Minimum 8 years of commercial, industrial, or mission-critical construction experience.
- Minimum 5 years of QA/QC leadership experience on large-scale construction projects.
- Experience with data center, healthcare, manufacturing, semiconductor, or other mission-critical facilities is strongly preferred.
- Thorough understanding of construction quality management systems, inspection procedures, and commissioning requirements.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and BIM coordination models.
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes, industry standards, and quality management principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and document management platforms.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively and relocate temporarily based on project assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience supporting hyperscale or enterprise data center construction.
- Certified Construction Quality Manager (CQM), ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, or similar quality certification.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience supporting commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
- Familiarity with Lean Construction, Last Planner System, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience using BIM and Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) tools for quality coordination.

- Ability to work in office and construction site environments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
