TITLE: In School Suspension (ISS) Monitor CLASSIFICATION: Non-Certified
FLSA: Non-Exempt DEPARTMENT: School Level
SALARY: $39,000-$52,000 WORK YEAR: 180 Days
REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the principal, In School Suspension Monitor will assist students who have been placed in the in-school suspension program obtain a positive academic, social and behavioral experience while enhancing a positive and collaborative learning experience school wide.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Job Functions)

Establish high standards and expectations for all students to accept responsibility for behavior.
Supervise students and consistently administer rules regarding student behavior during detention.
Inform students of rules and expectations.
Maintain an atmosphere in which students are expected to remain seated and silent during the time period.
Work with the administration to have in-school serve as an effective preventative disciplinary technique.
Assist students as needed with homework or instructional assignments.
Keep accurate records of student attendance and behavior, including any tardiness, and submit to the administration in a timely fashion.
Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom, managing, when appropriate, multiple instructional activities simultaneously.
Monitor the pacing of instruction and budget class time efficiently by providing clear directions, outlining expectations, and effectively bringing to closure instructional experiences.
Use effective presentation skills when employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
Use excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues
Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques.
Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, using school approved procedures.
Seek assistance of the parents and the administration when needed.
Establish a professional rapport with students that earns their respect.
Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, so as to create a cooperative relationship to support the child in the school.
Plan and adjust the learning experiences accordingly, requesting advice and assistance from administration when appropriate.

Illinois In-School Suspension standards and policies
Applicable District policies and procedures

Skills:

Interpersonal communication skills
Experience using Microsoft Office and Google

Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Analyze situations accurately, and adopt an effective course of action
Work collaboratively in a team setting
Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines
Meet district standards of professional conduct as outlined in Board policy

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Inside school/office environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
School/Office environment; walking, standing, squatting, hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations; seeing to monitor various activities; read documents, view computer monitor, kneeling, bending at the waist, sitting for extended periods of time; reaching overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally, or bending at the waist to retrieve and store files; lifting semi heavy objects; driving a vehicle to conduct work

TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma
2 years or more experience working in a school setting
Associates degree or equivalent 60+ semester hours) preferred
