The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the general ledger accounting function and ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information. This position oversees key accounting activities including month-end and year-end close, general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, account analysis, and compliance with established accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
The Accounting Manager partners closely with the Controller, operational departments, and other accounting teams to ensure financial results are accurately recorded, analyzed, and communicated. This role also provides leadership and development to the accounting team while identifying opportunities to strengthen accounting processes and internal controls.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Manage and oversee the general ledger accounting activities, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded, properly supported, and reported in accordance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Assist in the monthly and year-end close processes, including preparation, review, and approval of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, allocations, and other close-related activities.
- Review general ledger accounts and financial results for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness; investigate and resolve unusual transactions, account variances, and reconciling items.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of financial reporting processes, accounting procedures, and internal controls designed to ensure the integrity and reliability of financial information.
- Monitor balance sheet accounts and ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and timely, with appropriate documentation and resolution of outstanding items.
- Analyze income statement and balance sheet activity to identify trends, variances, accounting issues, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Partner with Dealership operations and other departments to provide accounting guidance, research accounting questions, resolve issues, and ensure transactions are appropriately reflected in the financial statements.
- Provide accounting support and financial insight related to operations, including Prime, Rental, Parts, Service, and other operational areas, as applicable.
- Research accounting transactions and technical accounting matters and assist in determining appropriate accounting treatment in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
- Support the development, implementation, and documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors by preparing schedules, providing supporting documentation, responding to inquiries, and assisting with the resolution of audit findings.
- Identify opportunities to standardize, automate, and improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, increase efficiency, and improve the timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting.
- Ensure accounting deadlines, reporting requirements, and departmental objectives are consistently achieved.
- Collaborate with other accounting and finance leaders to ensure consistency in accounting practices and reporting across the organization.
- Assist the Controller with special projects, financial analysis, accounting initiatives, system implementations, and other strategic or operational accounting matters.
- Develop a strong understanding of operations and serve as an accounting resource to both the accounting team and operational leadership.
- Recruit, select, train, develop, coach, and evaluate accounting employees while establishing clear expectations and promoting accountability, professional development, and continuous improvement.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises employees within the Accounting Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and reviewing work; evaluating performance; providing coaching and development; addressing performance concerns; and resolving problems.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university. Relevant accounting experience may be considered in combination with education.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation and analysis and financial reporting. Prior supervisory or accounting leadership experience required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and the relationship between balance sheet and income statement accounts, with the ability to evaluate the financial statement impact of accounting transactions.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial information, identify trends, investigate discrepancies, resolve problems, and develop practical solutions while exercising sound judgment in complex or sensitive situations.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence, collaborate, build relationships, coach and develop employees, establish performance expectations, provide meaningful feedback, and foster accountability within a team environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial and accounting concepts to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and customer service. Demonstrates adaptability when responding to changing business needs, competing priorities, and unexpected challenges.
- Proficient in accounting, ERP, database/reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with the ability to analyze and organize large volumes of financial data.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative partnerships with leadership, accounting teams, and other departments, while promoting continuous improvement through process evaluation, identification of inefficiencies or control weaknesses, and implementation of effective solutions.
- Maintains the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and commitment to the accuracy and reliability of the organization's financial information.
