- Reconciles general ledger, subsidiary, cash, receivable, and bank accounts on a monthly basis.
- Prepares journal entries and budget adjustments and reviews the general ledger to identify necessary corrections or adjustments.
- Assists with preparation and administration of the County's annual budget.
- Assists with preparation of annual financial statements and other required financial reports.
- Prepares and files monthly sales and use tax returns.
- Supports external auditors by providing requested financial information, records, and documentation.
- Reviews and assists with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grants management activities and serves as backup for other Finance Department functions as needed.
- Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
- Considerable knowledge of governmental accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of public finance, fiscal planning, internal controls, and financial management systems.
- Ability to prepare, review, reconcile, and maintain accurate financial records and reports.
- Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, and exercise sound independent judgment.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, word processing applications, and accounting and financial reporting software.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with County leadership, department heads, employees, external professionals, and the public.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail while managing multiple responsibilities.
Must be able to lift and/or carry approximately 5–10 pounds as necessary to perform assigned duties.
- Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
- Successful completion of background investigation and pre-employment screening as required by County policy.
Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment. The position requires regular interaction with the Finance Director, supervisors, co-workers, County department heads and employees, external professionals, and members of the public.
The position may require working under tight deadlines, particularly during budget preparation, financial reporting, and audit periods.
