Full Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Receives and delivers mail and small parcels to and from United States Postal Facility serving the Institution.
Censors and/or searches outgoing and incoming inmate mail and parcels.
Prepares mailroom notice of unauthorized items for inmate money orders, checks, etc., and order to report forms for parcels for delivery to inmates during daily mail call.
Inspects and prepares inmates outgoing mail/parcels and prepares institutional mail, to include numbered insured, certified and registered for delivery to the post office daily.
Inmate legal mail is received and distributed in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
Assists with coordinating postage meter replenishment and postage reimbursements from inmates on a monthly basis or as required.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and one (1) year of work experience in postal, courier or delivery operations.
An associate degree or higher may be substituted for the required work experience.

Additional Comments

Must become notary within three (3) months of accepting position.
