Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Setup Operator with a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in precision machining and CNC lathe operations. The ideal candidate is skilled with extensive machine setup experience, strong troubleshooting abilities, and the capability to independently create or modify Mastercam programs to support efficient, high-quality production. This candidate serves as a technical resource for the shop and helps drive continuous improvement in machining operations. This candidate will be responsible for program optimization, first-piece inspections, process improvements, and ensuring production of high-quality components while maintaining efficiency and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete setups on CNC lathes, including tooling, fixturing, offsets, and machine adjustments.
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and work instructions.
- Load, edit, and verify CNC programs to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Perform first article inspections and make necessary program or tooling adjustments.
- Monitor machine performance and maintain dimensional accuracy throughout production runs.
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, machine parameters, materials, and processes
- Edit CNC programs at the machine control as needed.
- Preferred ability to create and modify programs using Mastercam software.
- Optimize cycle times while maintaining quality and tooling life.
- Develop setup sheets, tooling lists, and process documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams on new product introductions and process improvements.
- Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and CMM reports.
- Ensure all products meet customer specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
- Identify and resolve quality concerns before production continues.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Ensure proper machine maintenance and report equipment issues promptly.
Skills
- Advanced Mastercam programming experience.
- Experience with multi-axis CNC lathes, live tooling, and Y-axis machining.
- Experience with Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, or Siemens controls.
- Knowledge of tooling selection, cutting parameters, and process optimization.
- Prior experience training or mentoring other machinists.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and electronic production documentation.

Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and movement throughout the workday.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise and cutting fluids.
- Aerospace manufacturing a plus
