Full Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and organized Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide both clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers while ensuring patients receive safe, professional, and compassionate care. This role is essential to maintaining efficient clinic operations, supporting providers during patient visits, and promoting a positive patient experience in a fast-paced medical environment.

Duties

Greet patients warmly and assist them with the check-in and check-out process.
Obtain and document accurate patient information, including medical history, medications, allergies, vital signs, and chief complaints.
Room patients and prepare examination rooms for scheduled visits.
Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, height, and weight.
Perform medication reconciliation and update patient medication lists as appropriate.
Assist providers with physical examinations, diagnostic procedures, and minor office procedures.
Prepare patients for examinations and procedures and provide appropriate instructions before and after visits.
Perform and document point-of-care testing, such as urine testing, glucose testing, and other tests as directed and within the scope of practice.
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for processing, including proper labeling, handling, and documentation.
Administer medications and injections as directed by the provider and in accordance with applicable regulations, training, and scope of practice.
Assist with wound care, dressing changes, suture/staple removal, and other clinical procedures as directed by the provider.
Perform or assist with EKGs and other routine diagnostic testing as required.
Monitor patients during visits and promptly report abnormal findings or changes in condition to the healthcare provider.
Assist providers with patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, follow-up appointments, preventive care, and general health instructions.
Document patient care, clinical findings, procedures, and other relevant information accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
Schedule follow-up appointments, referrals, diagnostic testing, and other patient services as directed.
Coordinate with pharmacies, laboratories, specialists, and other healthcare facilities regarding patient care and follow-up needs.
Assist with prior authorizations, prescription refill requests, referral coordination, and other clinical administrative tasks.
Communicate test results and provider instructions to patients as directed and according to office protocols.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, medication lists, allergies, and immunizations.
Assist with preventive care activities, including screenings, immunizations, and routine health maintenance.
Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked examination and treatment rooms.
Clean, disinfect, and prepare clinical equipment and examination areas according to infection-control protocols.
Monitor and maintain inventory of medical supplies, medications, and equipment; notify management when supplies need to be reordered.
Follow OSHA, HIPAA, infection-control, and other applicable healthcare regulations and safety procedures.
Maintain patient confidentiality and protect sensitive health information at all times.
Recognize and appropriately respond to urgent or emergent patient needs within the scope of training and clinic protocols.
Assist with basic first aid and emergency procedures when necessary and summon additional medical assistance as appropriate.
Handle incoming calls, address routine patient inquiries, and direct clinical questions to the appropriate healthcare provider or staff member.
Schedule appointments and manage patient calendars efficiently.
Process patient payments and assist with billing-related questions as needed.
Assist with obtaining and verifying insurance information and demographic information.
Provide compassionate, professional, and respectful customer service to patients and their families.
Support providers and other clinical staff with daily patient flow and overall clinic operations.
Perform other clinical and administrative duties as assigned within the Medical Assistant's training, certification, and scope of practice.

Qualifications

Previous experience as a Medical Assistant or in a similar clinical healthcare role is preferred.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent clinical experience preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly in areas such as geriatrics, internal medicine, urgent care, and medication administration.
Knowledge of basic clinical procedures, infection control, patient safety, and medical documentation.
Experience obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, collecting specimens, administering injections, and assisting with routine clinical procedures preferred.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively in a busy medical environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, families, providers, and staff.
Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic office software applications.
Ability to maintain accurate documentation and handle confidential patient information appropriately.
Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a healthcare team.
Strong attention to detail, reliability, professionalism, and commitment to patient-centered care.
Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 per week
