The Staff Chemist will be part of an expanding team of research chemists primarily focused on the improvement of our metal oxide photoresist materials. This position will be a part of the Technology department’s Research & Development (R&D) Formulation Team, the primary responsibility of which being the production of photoresist that is sent to customer R&D facilities. In addition to the production responsibilities, each member of this team also acts as a research assistant to a Senior Staff Chemist, performing experiments, collecting data, and having group discussions that further individual research projects aligned with company goals. This position will also include a heavy emphasis on responsibilities geared towards process verification and workflow accuracy. This will involve working alongside the R&D Formulation Team’s manager to maintain a workflow designed to ensure the quality of our product, while upholding the accuracy and efficiency of our systems. This position includes an expectation of teamwork, as this position will involve working well with a team in production planning and being flexible when sudden changes occur.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work hands-on with a variety of chemicals, tools, and materials to prepare for and accomplish assigned weekly formulations in a glovebox inert atmosphere.
- Collaborate with Formulation Team members to plan and schedule weekly responsibilities.
- Collaborate with assigned Senior Staff Chemist to accomplish research tasks and goals.
- Assist Formulation Team manager with Verification Coordination responsibilities, such as, but not limited to, customer request intake, shipment planning and preparation, and process improvement implementation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in laboratory work or within the chemical manufacturing industry.
- Familiarity with Microsoft environments (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong history of safe laboratory practice and active participation in laboratory and/or workplace safety programs.
- Active and effective verbal, written, and electronic communication skills
- Self-motivated and proactive in achieving goals.
- Teamwork skills to thrive in a fast-paced collaborative research environment
- Experience working with gloveboxes is preferred.
- Logistics experience in a manufacturing facility preferred.
- Familiarity with Information Management systems (e.g., Asana, LabWare) preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States now and in the future without the need for employer sponsorship.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand in one place for long periods of time.
- Ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and tablet for computer data entry, usage of instruments, and for collecting and presenting data.
- Ability to use a glovebox with thick rubber gloves to accurately pour, pipet, mix, and handle chemicals in small vials or bottles.
- Ability to wear standard PPE for multiple hours a day in areas that require it.
- Ability to lift 20 lbs.
- Ability to speak publicly and present information in group meetings.
- 40 hours/week or more may vary depending on the needs of the department; occasional overtime may be required.
- Physical activities include using hand tools, bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, climbing stairs, carrying, walking and/or reaching on a frequent basis.
- Ability to precisely handle small bottles, packages, labels, and other materials.
