POSITION OVERVIEW:
The successful candidate will join Sapere's growing paralegal team supporting the firm's four attorneys, and providing hands-on assistance to our treasured Clients. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This hybrid position requires at least two days per week on-site work and allows for two to three days remote work. Increased on-site work may be required during occasional intense projects (like trial or significant hearing preparation).
Initiative and outrageous love for people and the law is essential. Results are what matters. Managing attorney calendars and deadlines on a variety of interesting and challenging cases is key. The successful candidate is comfortable and proactive in speaking directly with our wonderful Clients, keeping the attorneys on track, and producing high-quality work without compromising efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Paralegal at Sapere Law & Mediation, you will play a key role in supporting our attorneys and clients in family law, estate planning, and mediation matters. You will work closely in a team atmosphere with our admin and paralegal staff. We value clear communication, strategic organization, and a calm, professional approach to complex and sensitive legal issues. Your responsibilities will include:
Calendar & Case Management
- Maintain accurate, deadline-driven calendars for court hearings, mediation, and filing deadlines
- Proactively ensure attorneys and clients are informed of upcoming obligations
- Keep all case matters moving forward on schedule without oversight or reminders
Client Communication & Support
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients, providing regular updates on case progress
- Guide clients through the completion of financial disclosures and other required documents
- Communicate with clarity and empathy, especially during emotionally charged situations
Legal Drafting & Discovery
- Draft pleadings, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and other legal documents
- Proofread and format legal documents for accuracy and compliance with court rules
- Assist attorneys with trial prep, exhibit binders, and document management
Court & Counsel Liaison
- Professionally correspond with court staff and opposing counsel’s office
- File documents with the court (electronic and in person, as needed)
- Track filing confirmations and follow up as required
Attorney Support & Case Oversight
- Ensure attorneys are fully briefed on all client developments and case activity
- Provide reminders, summaries, and insights to help the legal team stay on top of all details
- Take initiative to anticipate attorney and client needs before they arise

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Paralegal certificate with all continuing education requirements met and current.
- 3 + years California paralegal experience in family law (strong civil litigation experience will also be considered). Prefer 1+ years in estate planning.
- Proficient in MS Word; Adobe; Essential Forms, Legal Solutions, and/or Clio Draft (LawYaw).
- Experienced in contemporaneous timekeeping, and cloud-based law practice systems such as Clio, Box, DropBox, HotDocs, etc. (Clio preferred).
- Experience using Xspouse and/or Family Law Software a plus.
- Experienced in preparation and organization of case pleadings, correspondence, and discovery. Significant trial prep experience preferred.
- Knowledge of local practices, court forms, rules and filing procedures.
- Ability to maintain attorney calendars and scheduling.
- Positive outlook and skilled communicator.

COMPENSATION: $65,000 to $110,000; commensurate with experience.
