Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Occupational Therapist performing a variety of occupational therapy duties to full range of patients.

Typical clinic hours range from 0700-1530 or 0730 to 1600.

Duties

Provide evaluation and therapeutic interventions to a full range of wounded, ill, and injured service members and their families.
Develop and implement complex, goal-oriented treatment plans for patients.
Apply the use of therapeutic modalities and new integrative techniques and technologies for the purpose of evaluation and ongoing treatment.
Provide patient/family education on the injury/disease process.
Develop protocols and standing operating procedures for Occupational Therapy programs.
Interpret test results to assess nature and degree of deficits and/or outline appropriate treatment plan, goals and objectives.
Measure patient capability using standardized clinical tools, direct observations, interviews, and medical history reviews.
Provide technical supervision, oversight, and collaborative direction to Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs).
Provide clinical instruction to Occupational Therapy OT and/or Occupational Therapy Assistants OTA students.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
A pre-placement medical examination is required.
Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
Applicants must be able to fulfill privileged professional credential requirements.
This position has a TDY or business travel requirement of 5% of the time to various locations. This may require travel via privately owned vehicles, commercial and/or military transport.
Inclement Weather Essential: Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
This position may require uncommon hours of duty such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Additional requirements may be determined as positions arise and will be communicated during the hiring process if you are selected.
This position is designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations; the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Occupational Therapist:

Degree: A graduate (or higher level) degree that included an occupational therapy curriculum approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained, and completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school.

Certification: Applicants must have passed the national examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0631 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Evaluating occupational therapy patients; 2) Implementing occupational therapy treatment plans; and 3) Providing patient and/or staff education on occupational therapy techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
