Job Summary:
The Administrative Director supports the Executive Director in the implementation of the Charter School’s educational vision and the overall administration of the school. This position provides leadership, oversight, support, and resources in student support services, including all programs for students with disabilities and health office operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight for both site-level special education and district-wide special education programs, ensuring alignment between instructional practices, compliance requirements, and organizational goals.
- Ensure that all legal requirements for the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) processes are met, that related services are delivered and monitored.
- Ensure appropriate instruction and services are provided to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
- Coordinate related services staffing and supports (e.g., psychologists, counseling providers, nursing/health services, speech/language/hearing, APE, etc.) as they relate to special education programming.
- Oversee CDE and IDEA compliance requirement and reporting.
- Oversee Least Restrictive Environment implementation, including co-teaching and other relevant support.
- Identify appropriate providers and recommend contracts with outside agencies as needed for Special Educational and related services and provides oversight for all contracted services.
- Oversee AB 1172 implementation and documentation related to requirements regarding placement, monitoring, contracting, transition, and compliance for students served by nonpublic schools/agencies.
- Prepare required reports and communicate/interpret special education programs for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, parents, agencies, and community as needed.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the SELPA and other external agencies to develop, revise, and implement policies, procedures, and services in non-public school settings as appropriate.
- Represent the School in informal dispute resolutions, legal proceedings, mediations, and due process hearings.
- Design, implement, and evaluate staff development regarding students with for all teachers, including Special Education and general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other relevant staff.
- Oversee, support, coach, and evaluate teachers, school psychologists, special education assistants, and other assigned personnel to ensure the effective delivery of instructional, behavioral, and student support services that promote student achievement, well-being, and equitable outcomes.
- Oversee IEP management systems and reports to ensure participation, procedural compliance, accurate recordkeeping, and timely documentation.
- Serve as a member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team, as appropriate, and collaborate with special education staff, general education staff, parents, and service providers to support the successful implementation of IEP accommodations, health plans, and related student services.
- Develop, implement, and update policies and procedures related to special education by monitoring changes in federal and state laws, regulations, and legal guidance to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Oversee and monitor CALPADS Special Education data and related reports to ensure accuracy and timeliness of data entry and legal compliance.
- Oversee post-secondary transition planning for students with disabilities, including coordination with outside agencies (e.g., Regional Center, Department of Rehabilitation) to support successful transition to postsecondary education, employment, and independent living.
- Oversee Extended School Year (ESY) program.
- Oversee the daily operations of the Health Office, including supervision of nursing staff, implementation of health protocols, maintenance of student health records, and compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.
- Coordinate with special education staff and the Health Office regarding student medical needs, nursing services, health-related accommodations, emergency care plans, and other support necessary to ensure students have equitable access to educational opportunities.
- Collaborate with administrators, teachers, counselors, parents, and community agencies to identify and implement appropriate interventions and support services for students experiencing academic, behavioral, attendance, health, or social-emotional challenges.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, reporting requirements, and mandates related to student health services, attendance, student welfare, Section 504, mandated reporting, and student records, including oversight of Section 504 plan implementation and monitoring to ensure accommodations are provided consistently and effectively.
- Provide leadership in the implementation, supervision, and continuous evaluation of core and supplemental instructional programs to promote student achievement, academic growth, and mastery of California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and other state-adopted standards
- Support school leadership teams in the development, implementation, and monitoring of short- and long-range plans focused on academic achievement, school improvement, and organizational effectiveness.
- Build the instructional capacity of staff through coaching, collaboration, and professional learning focused on effective strategies for supporting diverse student groups, including English Learners, foster youth, homeless youth, socioeconomically disadvantaged students, Standard English Learners, gifted and talented students, students performing below grade level, and students with disabilities.
- Serve as a resource and instructional leader for staff, students, and families by providing guidance, support, and assistance related to curriculum, instruction, intervention, and student achievement.
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and implementation of professional development programs aligned with CCSS, state standards, the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), the Single Plan for Student Achievement, and organizational priorities.
- Assist the Executive Director in ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, mandates, reporting requirements, and instructional monitoring expectations.
- Assist in the development, interpretation, implementation, and communication of administrative policies, procedures, and operational practices.
- Coordinate and support the implementation of the Charter School’s comprehensive safety plan, emergency preparedness procedures, and mandated child abuse reporting requirements.
- Oversee and support systems designed to maintain high-quality instruction and continuity of learning during remote learning, emergency situations, public health crises, or other disruptions to in-person instruction.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university required.
- A valid Administrative Services Credential authorizing K-12 service
- A valid California K-12 Credential requiring a bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation; Education Specialist credential (either mild/moderate or moderate/severe) or PPS School Psychology credential highly preferred.
- At least four semester units in multicultural education or equivalent study
- At least five years of successful full-time public school certificated service
- At least three years of successful full-time public school certificated service in a K-12 public school program in a Special Education classroom or other setting supporting students with disabilities.
- At least two years of experience in a non-classroom leadership position (such as an administrator, coordinator, or program specialist)
- Familiarity with Welligent preferred.
