DEFINITION
Under general supervision, oversees and participates in activities related to the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of City facilities, including buildings, facilities, streets, sidewalks, storm drains, landscaping, and park and recreational facilities; inspects facilities and makes recommendations regarding improvements; monitors contractor work and overall performance; performs related duties as assigned.
THE POSITION
The City is seeking an experienced, hands-on, and service-oriented Senior Maintenance Technician to oversee and participate in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of City facilities, infrastructure, and public spaces. This position serves as a lead worker, providing technical guidance and training to staff while ensuring that City assets are maintained safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
The successful candidate will be a skilled maintenance professional who takes pride in public service, demonstrates strong problem-solving abilities, and is committed to delivering quality results that enhance the community's quality of life.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable and versatile maintenance professional with experience in public works, facilities maintenance, parks maintenance, or municipal operations. Must possess strong technical skills across multiple trades and fully comfortable leading projects, coordinating contractors, and training employees. Experience with budget oversight and management is essential, including tracking expenditures, forecasting maintenance costs, managing vendor contracts within approved budgets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
This individual is self-motivated, organized, and capable of independently assessing maintenance needs, prioritizing work assignments, and implementing effective solutions. They understand the importance of maintaining public infrastructure and facilities in a safe, attractive, and operational condition.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education:
Equivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by specialized training or coursework in construction, landscape management, or the skilled trades.
Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of a variety of municipal infrastructure and facilities, including contract administration experience.
Licenses and Certifications:Knowledge of:
Maintenance principles, practices, tools and materials for construction, maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, streets, sidewalks, storm drains, landscaping, and park and recreational facilities.
Principles and practices of contract administration and supervision, including work planning, assignment, review, and the training of staff in work procedures.
Principles and practices of leadership.
Principles of providing functional direction and training.
Basic methods and principles of carpentry, painting, custodial work, and plumbing.
Safety equipment and practices related to the work, including the handling of hazardous chemicals.
Methods of trouble-shooting maintenance and repair projects.
The structure and content of the English language to effectively perform the work.
Basic mathematics and shop arithmetic.
Traffic control procedures and traffic sign regulations.
Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations as well as industry standards and best practices pertinent to the assigned area of responsibility.
City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
Techniques for providing a high level of customer service, by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.
Methods of estimating time, labor, and materials necessary to perform assigned work.
