ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE, PUBLIC RELATIONS

OVERVIEW – JOB DESCRIPTION:

Communica is an integrated advertising, marketing and public relations firm headquartered in Toledo with regional offices in Columbus and Detroit. For more than 30 years, we have developed high-impact campaigns for regional, national and international organizations.

We are seeking an experienced Account Executive, Public Relations to join our team. This position will manage day-to-day client relationships and public relations activities for assigned accounts while helping develop and execute strategic, integrated communications programs.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer, experienced media relations professional and organized project manager who understands how public relations supports broader marketing and business objectives, takes ownership of assignments and works collaboratively across integrated teams and a variety of client accounts, including B2B.

This position reports to the Director of Public Relations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Manage day-to-day client relationships and public relations activities for assigned accounts.

● Develop a strong understanding of clients’ businesses, industries and goals to identify communications and integrated marketing opportunities.

● Develop and execute strategic public relations plans, campaigns and recommendations.

● Write and edit press releases, media advisories, pitches, talking points, key messages, statements, social media content and other communications materials.

● Develop compelling story angles and conduct proactive media outreach with local, regional, national and trade media.

● Build and maintain relationships with journalists, influencers, podcasters and other key contacts.

● Coordinate interviews and prepare clients with talking points, background materials and anticipated questions.

● Support issues management and crisis communications, including rapid-response messaging.

● Identify thought leadership, speaking, award and community engagement opportunities.

● Support press conferences, media days, grand openings and other client events.

● Develop social media content and strategies that support broader communications objectives.

● Manage client projects, timelines and budgets while maintaining strong communication with clients and internal teams.

● Monitor communications results and provide clients with reporting, insights and recommendations.

● Collaborate with Communica’s account service, creative, media and digital teams to support integrated client programs.

● Stay current on public relations, media, social media, AI/search and communications trends.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

● Minimum of four years of professional public relations or communications experience required.

● Agency experience strongly preferred.

● Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or a related field preferred.

● Demonstrated media relations experience and strong news judgment.

● Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, including knowledge of AP style.

● Strong client relationship and project management skills.

● Ability to work independently, take ownership and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

● Strategic, collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset.

● Experience with media databases, monitoring platforms, social media tools and email marketing platforms is a plus.
