Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Kansas Department of Commerce is seeking a dynamic Social Media Strategist to lead the agency's digital communications presence. This position plays a crucial role in advancing the agency's mission to attract new businesses, invest in quality-of-life initiatives, connect jobseekers to employment, bring new visitors to the state, and promote economic opportunity across Kansas.
The Social Media Strategist will develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategic plan, manage day-to-day channel operations, produce compelling content, and analyze performance data to continuously optimize the agency's digital outreach. This position requires a creative communicator with a strong understanding of communication and social media strategies, as well as digital marketing best practices.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Develop, implement, and maintain a creative, comprehensive annual social media strategic plan aligned with the agency's economic development goals, legislative priorities, and communications objectives.

Conduct audience research to identify target demographics, including businesses, site selectors, investors, entrepreneurs, and workforce development partners

Coordinate social media strategy with broader marketing campaigns, press initiatives, and legislative communications efforts.

Maintain a rolling editorial calendar that aligns with economic announcements, business development milestones, legislative sessions, industry events, and agency programs.

Establish key performance indicators (KPIs), benchmarks, and reporting cadences to measure the effectiveness of social media activities.

Develop platform-specific strategies for LinkedIn, X (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and emerging platforms appropriate to the agency's audiences.

Manage agency accounts and ensure brand consistency across all channels in accordance with state communications standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two to three years' experience managing social media channels (including creating concepts, content and design)
