Job Title: Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS)
Agency: Arbor Care Solutions
Reports To: Team Lead
Position Type: Full-Time & Part-Time
Location: Community-Based Only

Position Summary

The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) at Arbor Care Solutions delivers person-centered, strength-based peer support services to adults living with mental health or substance use challenges. Drawing from their own recovery journey, the CPSS provides hope, mentorship, and non-clinical support to help individuals build independence, increase community integration, and take ownership of their wellness. This role is grounded in mutual respect, shared experience, and a commitment to recovery-oriented principles.

Key Responsibilities:

Peer Engagement & Recovery Support

Build positive, supportive relationships based on shared experience and mutual respect.
Serve as a role model for recovery, wellness, and community living.
Assist individuals in identifying personal recovery goals and creating individualized wellness strategies.
Encourage development of self-advocacy, self-esteem, and community participation.
Promote personal responsibility and empowerment throughout the recovery journey.

Community-Based Service Delivery

Deliver all services in community settings such as client homes, shelters, libraries, parks, or other natural environments.
Support individuals in accessing community resources (e.g., housing, healthcare, education, transportation, and employment).
Coach clients in building daily living skills, problem-solving, and navigating systems.
Provide support during transitions (e.g., discharge from hospitals, housing changes, or program transitions).
Assist with appointment follow-through, goal setting, and motivational encouragement.

Collaboration & Documentation

Participate in team meetings to provide peer-based input into service planning.
Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all services in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Collaborate with the team lead and service providers to coordinate supports aligned with the person’s recovery goals.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional boundaries at all times.
Participate in required peer support supervision, coaching, and ongoing training.

Qualifications

Must hold a current North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification.
High school diploma or GED required.
Personal lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery is required.
Minimum 2 year of sustained recovery preferred.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Ability to work independently and effectively in the community.
Strong communication, relationship-building, and time management skills.
Must be able to document services using an electronic record system.
Completion of all required agency and Medicaid trainings within designated timeframes.

Work Expectations

Full-time position, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Occasional flexibility may be required based on individual client needs.
All services must be delivered in the community — no office-based service delivery.
Travel to client homes, public spaces, or other community settings required.
Must consistently document services and maintain compliance with Medicaid policy and agency standards.
Expected to model recovery-oriented values and uphold professional conduct in all interactions.
