The Geologist II will be tasked with geologically mapping blast patterns, pit highwalls from daily shovel advances, final mine walls, interpretating geology to the Technical Services, Operations and Process teams, perform the daily ore control duties, assist with geologic 3D modelling, database tasks, preforming QA-QC on assay data, and planning and supervising drilling projects. Must be comfortable spending 50% of time in the field in all weather conditions.
Essential Functions:
- Visit working shovel pits and report interpretations at morning grade control meeting.
- Perform all daily Ore Control functions in the field and office.
- Update 3D Geomodel weekly with mapping.
- Geologic mapping of highwalls, chips, and drill core for lithology, alteration, and structure.
- Create and update weekly and monthly reports.
- Digitize mapping, update and create 3D geomodelling.
- Perform Quality assurance quality control reporting for internal and 3rd party laboratories.
- Liaise with and advise Mine Planning, Operations, Processing, and other teams with geologic interpretations and Best Practices.
Additional Duties:
- Perform data analytics requiring understanding of statistical theory and how to analyze and represent large datasets numerically and graphically.
- Provide technical/logistical support for exploration drilling campaigns.
- Collaborate with outside contractors providing services to the department.
- Plan, supervise, and assist in the management of drill programs and Special projects.
- Assist with geotechnical and hydrological tasks and interpretations.
- Assist with database administration.
- Ability to learn and use modern industry standard software suites.
Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geological Engineering required.
- Master's degree in Economic Geology preferred.
- Three years previous experience preferred.
- Previous work experience in exploration or production geology or geological engineering beneficial.
