Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Controller / Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and support financial reporting for a growing organization. This individual will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial records, maintaining internal controls, and partnering with leadership to support strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically strong in accounting, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. This role is expected to function as both a technical accounting leader and a strategic finance partner, supporting budgeting, forecasting, and operational decision-making across the organization.
Duties
Core Accounting Ownership
- Maintain full responsibility for end-to-end accounting operations, from initial transaction recording through financial statement preparation
- Oversee the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger, including proper classification and coding of all transactions
- Ensure all financial activity is recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies
- Oversee and manage daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Create monthly client invoices in accordance to contract guidelines and ensure coordination with management for invoice accuracy
- Manage the monthly and year-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports
- Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance and accuracy
- Oversee tax compliance, including coordination of federal, state, and local filings with external CPA
- Identify process improvements and implement best practices within the accounting function
General Ledger & Journal Entries
- Maintain and manage the chart of accounts across entities and divisions
- Maintain fixed and intangible assets and record depreciation, amortization, and write-offs as needed
- Ensure proper capitalization and systematic amortization of prepaid assets in accordance with GAAP and review prepaid activity monthly to ensure completeness and accuracy of expense recognition
- Develop, review, and post monthly accrual entries for expenses, revenue, and other obligations to ensure accurate financial reporting and maintain detailed accrual schedules, including payroll, bonuses, vendor expenses, and contract-based liabilities.
- Prepare, review, and approve journal entries for all areas of accounting, including revenue, expenses, accruals, and intercompany transactions
Account Reconciliations
- Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts, including cash, receivables, payables, prepaids, accruals, and fixed asset
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manne
- Ensure reconciliation processes are standardized and properly documented
Credit Card/Reimbursement Program Management
- Oversee the company’s corporate credit card program, including card issuance, limits, and usage monitoring
- Ensure timely submission and review of all credit card expense reports and supporting documentation
- Monitor credit card activity regularly to identify unusual transactions, policy violations, or unauthorized spending
- Review credit card expenses for proper documentation, business purpose, and compliance with company policies
- Coordinate with cardholders to resolve missing receipts, incomplete submissions, or discrepancies in a timely manner
Budgeting
- Lead the annual budgeting process, including coordination with department heads and leadership
- Develop consolidated budgets across multiple entities and divisions
- Establish budget assumptions, including revenue projections, cost structures, and staffing plans
- Present budget recommendations and analysis to leadership
- Prepare rolling forecasts and update projections based on actual performance and business changes
- Work with operations teams to adjust forecasts for new projects, contracts, or cost changes
- Ensure forecasts align with both financial targets and operational realities
- Track and report budget vs. actual performance on a monthly basis
- Investigate and explain significant variances, including project‑level and divisional impacts
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead financial planning and analysis processes, including monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasting cycles
- Analyze financial results and provide variance analysis (actual vs. budget/forecast), identifying key drivers of performance [4cornerresources.com]
- Develop meaningful financial insights and recommendations to support executive decision-making
- Partner with leadership to evaluate business performance, profitability, and cost structure across divisions
- Provide ad hoc analysis to support pricing decisions, contract negotiations, and investment opportunities
- Recommend corrective actions to leadership to improve financial outcomes
Cash Flow Forecasting & Liquidity Management
- Develop and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) to ensure the organization can meet operational obligations
- Monitor actual cash activity vs. forecast and adjust projections based on changing business conditions
- Identify potential cash shortfalls in advance and proactively communicate risks to leadership
- Support strategic planning around liquidity, including timing of major expenditures and payroll obligations
- Optimize timing of cash inflows and outflows to maintain adequate liquidity
- Oversee the full accounts receivable cycle, including billing, collections, and cash application
- Establish collections processes and follow-up cadence for outstanding invoices
- Actively monitor aging reports and identify delinquent accounts requiring escalation
- Ensure consistent follow-up with clients via email and phone to drive timely collections
- Partner with operations and leadership to resolve billing disputes quickly and remove barriers to payment
Job Costing/Project Accounting
- Oversee job costing processes, including tracking project-level revenues, costs, and profitability
- Ensure accurate allocation of labor, overhead, and direct costs to projects or divisions
- Review and analyze job cost reports to identify variances, inefficiencies, and margin trends
- Partner with operations and project managers to monitor budgets, forecasts, and project performance
- Support revenue recognition and cost tracking for project-based or contract-driven work
- Develop and maintain standardized job costing methodologies and reporting package
Divisional / Multi-Entity Reporting
- Manage financial reporting across multiple divisions and legal entities, ensuring consistency and accuracy
- Prepare and analyze divisional financial statements, including profitability by business line or project
- Ensure proper allocation of shared costs (e.g., overhead, payroll, insurance) across divisions
- Assist in developing internal reporting packages that provide insights into divisional performance
- Support consolidation of financial results and intercompany accounting processes
- Provide financial insights to leadership on project performance, cost overruns, and margin improvement opportunities
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting at the division and project level
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Required)
- Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA (Preferred) or CMA/CPA License in lieu of Masters
- Minimum of 7+ years of progressive accounting experience (required)
- Prior experience in a Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and double-entry accounting
- Experience managing full-cycle accounting operations and financial close processes
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting/ERP systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Preferred Qualifications
- CMA or CPA designation
- Prior supervisory experience
- Proficiency in Quickbooks Online
- Prior experience in the construction or project management industry
- Experience working with multiple entities or complex organizational structures
- Experience supporting audits, tax compliance, and financial reporting processes
