Full Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Safety Technician supports supports the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure a safe and compliant workplace. This position is responsible for conducting inspections, monitoring workplace conditions, training employees, and assisting with incident investigations. The Safety Technician works closely with the Safety/EHS Manager, supervisors, and employees to maintain compliance with OSHA and other applicable safety regulations, while fostering a strong safety culture throughout the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Perform routine safety inspections of equipment, work areas, and processes to identify and correct hazards.
Monitor compliance with OSHA standards, company safety policies, and industry best practices.
Assist with maintaining required safety records, permits, and reports.
Support and conduct safety training programs, including new hire orientations, PPE use, lockout/tagout, and hazard communication.
Help administer and maintain programs such as machine guarding, confined space entry, fall protection, and respiratory protection.
Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents, near-misses, and injuries, and help implement corrective actions.
Monitor chemical storage, labeling, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) compliance.
Provide support in emergency preparedness and response, including spill response, fire prevention, and evacuation drills.
Participate in safety committee meetings and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Serve as a resource to employees for safety questions, concerns, and reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience)

High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
1–3 years of experience in safety, EHS, or manufacturing environment preferred.
Knowledge of OSHA standards, safety regulations, and hazard recognition.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with all levels of employees.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER) preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to have a full range of body motion including twisting, bending, reaching outward, pushing, pulling, intensive hand/wrist movement and lifting to meet the NSP minimum required pounds per day which is up to 50 pounds (unassisted). The employee must be able to walk and stand for a significant amount of time on even concrete surfaces, which may at times be slippery due to marinades, water, and other liquids associated with the production process.

Due to noise levels in the work environment, the use of hearing protection is required. The employee must have good, corrected vision to see details at close range or at a distance. The employee will be working in a climate-controlled environment of -40ºF to -45ºF. The employee may be exposed to strong odors such as raw meat and marinades from seasoned meat.

While in the production area, employee is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include hair and beard nets, rubber soled shoes, smocks, hearing protection and hard hats.
