POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Speech Language Pathologist 2 (SLP) will serve an integral function, providing both speech and swallowing therapy at Sunmount DDSO. The incumbent’s time will be shared among the Campus ICF locations (CIT, RIT1, RIT2 and LIT locations). The Speech-Language Pathologist provides clinical services for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. They function as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment teams or within the organizational structure of the department in which they work. The SLP will also coordinate and provide discipline specific trainings, participate in local committees as assigned, and offer recommendations on adaptive equipment needs for the individuals served.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Speech-Language Pathologist, you would participate in a broad range of experiences dealing with the communication and swallowing disorders of the individuals that we serve. In all cases, you will apply your skills and techniques to meet the specific needs of our individuals.
· In compliance with 483 regulations, will provide immediate evaluations to every individual admitted to the ICF programs operated by Sunmount DDSO, and based upon the identified strengths, needs and objectives of these evaluations may also through written training program development, provide ongoing therapeutic speech and swallowing therapy services as an integral member of the ICF interdisciplinary team.
· Will make recommendations for necessary adaptive equipment, and ongoing therapeutic services for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders.
· Will provide discipline specific training to individuals, paraprofessional staff and direct care staff, and other team members to ensure all are able to best support the communication and swallowing needs of the individuals served by Sunmount DDSO’s programs.
· Participate in Treatment team meetings for individuals that are provided Speech services.
· Work as a member of the therapeutic dining team to provide consultations on all individuals upon arrival and as requested by the Primary Medical Provider and Treatment team.
· May be asked to attend medical appointments if requested for individual specific issues related to swallowing, dysphasia. (Special Circumstances)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Open Competitive: possession of a license and current registration as a Speech Language Pathologist in New York State or certification in Speech Language Pathology by ASHA.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.
- Please note that starting salary for this title reflects the geographic pay differential. Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 20 ($74,193) and Geographic Pay Differential ($4,000). Geographic Pay Differential is also added to the job rate ($94,121).
- If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.
- The assignment of PS&T employees will be made in accordance with any agreed upon Memorandum of Understanding between PEF and the local DDSO regarding the posting of job vacancies.
