CT Technologist — Outpatient Oncology

El Portal Comprehensive Cancer Centers

Job Summary

El Portal Comprehensive Cancer Centers is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and skilled CT Technologist to join our outpatient oncology team. The CT Technologist performs high-quality computed tomography examinations that support accurate diagnosis, cancer staging, treatment planning, and follow-up care. This role is responsible for providing a safe, comfortable, and efficient patient experience while producing diagnostically accurate images and maintaining the highest standards of radiation safety, infection prevention, and clinical documentation.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication and patient-care skills. The CT Technologist works closely with radiologists and teleradiologists, oncologists, radiation therapists, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff to coordinate care and support timely clinical decisions in a patient-centered outpatient environment.

Duties

Perform routine and specialized CT examinations in accordance with physician orders, established imaging protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Verify patient identity, examination orders, and relevant clinical history before each procedure; screen for allergies, contrast contraindications, pregnancy status, renal-function requirements, and other safety considerations, as applicable.
Explain procedures clearly, answer patient questions, reduce anxiety, and provide compassionate support throughout the imaging visit.
Position patients accurately and select or adjust technical factors and approved protocols based on the ordered examination, patient condition, cross-sectional anatomy, and diagnostic objective.
Apply ALARA principles and all radiation-safety practices to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and the public while maintaining diagnostic image quality.
Perform venipuncture and prepare and administer oral and intravenous contrast media when ordered and when permitted by current credentials, California law, and center policy.
Monitor patients before, during, and after contrast administration; recognize adverse reactions or changes in condition and initiate the center’s emergency-response procedures when necessary.
Review completed images for positioning, artifacts, technical quality, and completeness before transmitting studies to PACS and the interpreting radiologist or teleradiologist.
Communicate promptly with radiologists and teleradiologists regarding protocol questions, urgent findings communicated by the interpreting physician, incomplete studies, or additional imaging needs to support timely interpretation and diagnosis.
Support radiation-oncology workflows by assisting with CT simulation, reproducible patient positioning, immobilization, documentation, and quality-assurance activities within the limits of the employee’s education, training, certification, and licensure.
Accurately document procedures, contrast type and amount, venipuncture, patient response, technical notes, and other required information in the EMR, RIS, PACS, and related systems.
Follow HIPAA requirements and maintain the privacy and confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
Maintain strict infection-prevention standards, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment and patient-care areas between examinations and properly handling contaminated materials and sharps.
Perform required equipment warm-up, quality-control, and safety checks; identify and report equipment concerns promptly and coordinate service when needed.
Maintain appropriate room readiness, emergency supplies, contrast materials, and inventory to support efficient daily operations.
Coordinate with clinical and scheduling teams to maintain patient flow, accommodate urgent needs when possible, and minimize delays in the outpatient setting.
Participate in center-specific training, continuing education, quality-improvement activities, and competency assessments related to CT imaging, oncology care, contrast administration, radiation safety, and emergency procedures.
Perform other related duties consistent with the role and the technologist’s authorized scope of practice.

Skills

Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program.
Current California Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) certificate in Diagnostic Radiologic Technology, in good standing.
Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registration in Radiography, ARRT(R), required.
Advanced ARRT certification in Computed Tomography, ARRT(CT), strongly preferred or required based on center policy.
Current California-compliant venipuncture certification required if performing venipuncture or administering intravenous contrast.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
