JOB STATEMENT: The Analytical Chemist is responsible for overseeing analytical testing of wine, juice, and related products across Bronco Wine Company’s laboratory network in accordance with domestic and international regulatory standards. This role ensures legal compliance for label approval, export documentation, tax classification, and product integrity. The Analytical Chemist performs certified analyses, maintains method validation documentation, and supports internal quality control and external regulatory reporting. This role works closely with Bronco’s Winemaking, Compliance, and Product Development teams and will be responsible for driving method development, continuous improvements, and standardized training across the Bronco laboratory network.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

TTB Certified Analytical Testing & Reporting:
-
Perform analyses in compliance with TTB-recognized or TTB-certified methods
-
Prepare all official laboratory reports and issue signed analytical certificates of analysis (COA)

Regulatory Compliance:
-
Ensure laboratory maintains TTB certification requirements
-
Maintain documentation for audits and inspections
-
Serve as primary point of contact for TTB officials during audits or inquiries
-
Stay current with all regulations affecting wine production and labeling
-
Assist with formula approvals and compliance documentation
-
Method Development & Validation:
-
Research, develop, and validate analytical techniques and methods to measure chemical properties of grapes, juice, wine, and other beverages
-
Oversee laboratory training and proficiency testing; conduct inter-laboratory comparisons annually
-
Develop, implement, and maintain all SOPs in adherence with TTB guidelines and ISO 9001:2015 standard requirements

Laboratory Instrumentation & Analysis:
-
Operate, calibrate, and maintain lab instruments, including GC-MS, auto-titrators, refractometers, enzymatic analyzers, and infrared analyzers
-
Analyze samples to ensure quality and regulatory standards are met throughout the winemaking and beverage making process

Manage laboratory inventory across Bronco laboratory network

Quality Control & Data Integrity:
-
Maintain strict chain-of-custody and documentation procedures
-
Review and approve analytical data prior to release to internal and external customers
-
Maintain and oversee laboratory response plan for non-conforming data
-
Manage all RCA investigations and oversee laboratory CAR/PAR process
-
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and HACCP program requirements

Data Analysis & Reporting:

Apply statistical methods to interpret data, maintain detailed records, and present findings to leadership and cross-functional partners as required

Project Management:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams on innovation projects, ensuring project timelines are met

QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Education/Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, Enology, or related scientific discipline is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
-
Must qualify as a TTB Certified Chemist or meet TTB credentialing requirements, demonstrating knowledge of TTB analytical procedures.
-
3-5+ years of experience with advanced laboratory instrumentation, techniques, troubleshooting, and method development is required; experience in wine or beverage manufacturing is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Expertise in quantitative analytical chemistry is required; an in-depth understanding of wine chemistry and fermentation processes is preferred.

Knowledge of GC MS, FOSS, Alcolyzer, pH meters, auto titrators, Gallery Plus enzymatic analyzer, and other laboratory instrumentation
-
Ability to understand and follow protocols, policies, and procedures
-
Effective communication skills
-
Ability to prioritize requests and produce clear and concise documentation

Works independently and carries out assigned duties safely and effectively
-
Must be available to work various shifts as needed

Physical Requirements:

Lift 30 – 40 lbs.

Work Environment & Safety Requirements:
-
The role is primarily laboratory-based, but may require occasional work on top of large wine tanks (up to 50 feet)

Availability for extended hours, including weekend and holiday work, may be required
-
Travel to other laboratory locations or facilities as needed
-
Comply with all Bronco mandated safety programs and policies, including GMP, OSHA, IIPP, and GLP.
-
Work with, or in proximity to, various chemicals, solvents, pressurized systems, compressed gases, and biological materials.
-
Work occurs in environments that may include low, medium, or high voltages.
-
Work with energized systems and working in close proximity to moving equipment.
HOURS AND WORKDAYS
1st Shift 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with some occasional OT.
