Job Summary
The Residence Coordinator I is a professional, live-in position responsible for supporting the mission and philosophy of the Housing & Residence Life Department and University of Texas at Tyler by establishing and maintaining a community environment within the apartments and residence halls while promoting and enhancing students' social, educational, and personal development. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. This is a security-sensitive position. Serves in On-call duty rotation 24 hours per day, including weekends.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

Manages the operations, programs, and services for assigned residential community, including facilities and exterior grounds.

Facilitates student leadership and development through program development. Serves as an advisor to a student organization, as assigned. Assists with staff training, as requested.

Assists, advises, and counsels students with academic and personal matters through an open line of communication and providing referrals from the university and community.

Maintains and completes administrative and operational tasks such as hall files, work order requests, Health & Safety Inspections/reports, key requests, oversight of residential student mail & package distribution, damage reports, room inventories, fire alarm reports, incident reports, room & parking gate access cards, hall/apartment occupancy, conflict management, room changes, etc.

Oversight and management of community budget.

Works closely with departmental maintenance and custodial staff to ensure a well-maintained environment.

Recruit, train, and supervise hall and apartment staff.

Plans and participates in active staff development of student workers.

Prepare necessary documents and conduct student judicial hearings.

Adjudicates and counsel students on residential policy violations.
-
Monitors and maintains security procedures for the residential community.

Responsible for the housing team’s emergency response, working in sync with University Police and first responders.

Serve in On-call duty rotation 24 hours per day, including weekends in residence halls and apartments, to be available to students.

Write and prepare on-call duty reports.

Remain at location during the emergency.
-
Return immediately after an emergency to relieve those who are assigned to stay.

Work at an alternate location if assigned during or after the emergency.

Come to work during scheduled time off (vacation) if requested.

Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree.

Two (2) years of work experience in a residential housing program or related experience

A combination of experience and education may be considered.
Preferred Education / Experience

Master’s Degree.

Three (3) years of full-time or graduate level work experience in a university or college residential housing program.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
