Job Summary
The Director of Student Accessibility provides leadership in the administration and coordination of accessibility services for all UT Tyler campuses. Ensures that qualified students with disabilities receive equal access to education and educational services, programs and activities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADA(AA) 2008), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other federal and state laws pertaining to person with disabilities. Provides support to students, faculty and the community to promote student access and ensure the university remains in compliance with applicable laws. Assists the university with advancing the educational mission, vision and values while providing resources that facilitate equal access.
Key Responsibilities

Provide oversight, strategic direction, budgetary expenditures and expertise for the student accessibility and resources (SAR) Office.

Ensure university compliance with lawful provisions of equal access, equal opportunity and support services for qualified students.

Maintain office database, Accessible Information Management system, to ensure proper delivery of accommodations, case management, recordkeeping and related data collection.

Establish, execute and assess strategic initiatives designed to support student success through the delivery of specialized services, data analysis and campus accessibility assessment inside and outside of the classroom.

Furnish leadership and guidance to personnel in the areas of technical support, accessibility, disability eligibility analysis, referrals, exam administration and outreach to provide reasonable accommodations.

Provide interpretation and guidance to students, faculty and staff by serving as the ADA(AA)

Coordinator for students.

Collaborate with campus partners, faculty and community to ensure accessibility of campus facilities, quality access, advance technology in the classroom, inform course design, and promote an accessible and inclusive campus community which supports retention and matriculation.

Develop and implement services, policies, resources and training for the campus community to effectively serve students with disabilities.

Oversight of campus Testing Center, facilitating accommodated testing and some standardized assessments such as CLEP and TSI.

Maintains a caseload of students with disabilities registered with the SAR office.

Represents the student accessibility and resources office on a variety of campus committees.

Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree.
-
Five (5) years of experience working with students with disabilities in a disability office on a higher education campus.
-
May accept a combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
-
Master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation, counseling, psychology, social work, or special education.

Operational knowledge of Accessible Information Management system or similar disability management system used on Higher Education campus.

General knowledge of adaptive and assistive technology.
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Demonstrated knowledge of ADA(AA)/504 and related disability laws for higher education.

Knowledge of the types of chronic and temporary disabilities, including learning, physical, psychological, neurological, sensory, and mobility.

Experience reading and evaluating documentation to determine functional limitations in a learning environment.

Proficiency in managing and reviewing documentation.

Demonstrated experience providing appropriate accommodations services on a university campus.

Adept with Microsoft Suite.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
