Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Tribal Social Services Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and management of the Tribe’s social service programs. This position ensures that services are delivered in a culturally appropriate, effective, and compliant manner, while protecting the welfare of tribal members and families. The Director will oversee program planning, staff supervision, budgeting, grant management, and interagency collaboration to meet the needs of the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide leadership and management for all Tribal Social Services programs, including but not limited to: child welfare, family services, domestic violence prevention, elder protection, foster care, general assistance, ICWA compliance, and other community support services.
Develop, implement, and monitor program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures consistent with tribal values, applicable laws, and funding requirements.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Social Services staff, ensuring ongoing professional development and high-quality service delivery.
Manage and oversee program budgets, contracts, and grants; ensure compliance with federal, state, and tribal funding requirements.
Prepare regular reports for the Tribal Council/Administration on program activities, outcomes, challenges, and funding updates.
Advocate for the needs of tribal families and children, ensuring culturally sensitive services that strengthen and preserve Native families.
Serve as the primary liaison with federal, state, local, and tribal agencies in matters concerning social services, including ICWA cases, courts, and service providers.
Ensure compliance with confidentiality and HIPAA requirements in all program activities.
Provide crisis intervention and case management support as needed.
Develop and maintain community outreach, education, and prevention initiatives to promote wellness and strengthen families.

Minimum Qualifications

A degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Public Administration, or a related field
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in social services, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
Knowledge of federal and state laws governing social services, including ICWA, child welfare, elder protection, and domestic violence statutes.
Demonstrated understanding of tribal communities, sovereignty, and cultural traditions.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Experience in program development, grant writing, and fiscal management.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, stakeholders, and government agencies.
Must maintain strict confidentiality.
Must successfully pass a background check and meet suitability requirements for working with children and vulnerable populations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.00 - $38.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 48.0 per week
