Retrevr
Sales Development Representative (SDR)
Provo, Utah — in office, hybrid after ramp
Part time (16-29 hr/week)
Base + uncapped commission
Read this posting all the way to the bottom- we want the very best, and this is our brick wall to keep everyone else out. (Bonus points for naming a source of that quote!)The application instructions are specific on purpose. Roughly half of the people who apply will not follow them, and those applications are closed without review. This is a job where getting the details right is the difference between a booked meeting and a dial tone.
The job
You are on the phone. That is the job. You will make outbound calls to veterinary clinics, dental and orthodontic practices, med spas, salons, chiropractors, and pet grooming and boarding businesses, and your one objective is to get a busy office manager or owner to give one of our account executives fifteen minutes.
You will hear "no" more times before lunch than most people hear in a month. The reps who do well here are the ones who find that interesting rather than exhausting.
What Retrevr is, and why the calls actually land
Retrevr provides a smart voicemail alternative and/or an AI-native practice management software. Most of the businesses you call are running five or six disconnected tools — one for scheduling, another for records, another for billing, another for texting patients — and every one of them is missing calls after hours that never get called back.
Retrevr replaces that stack with one system, gets a practice fully live within 24 hours of signing up, and answers the phone when nobody is at the front desk. Practices on the platform report saving 15+ hours a week on admin work, recovering 91% of missed-call revenue, and booking and keeping 28% more appointments.
That matters for you in a very practical way: you are not cold-calling with a vague value proposition. You are calling a five-person dental office that lost four new-patient calls last Tuesday because the front desk was with someone else, and you can tell them exactly what that costs and exactly how fast it stops.
What you will actually do all day
- Blitz structured short shifts of outbound calling to businesses and Vet/Medical practices in our target verticals — this is the majority of your day, every day.
- Run real discovery in the first sixty seconds: find out what catching those missed calls could provide for them and how many calls they are missing.
- Book qualified meetings for account executives .
- Log everything accurately. If it is not in the CRM, it did not happen.
- Show up to coaching sessions with your own call recordings queued up and specific questions about them.
- Hit a daily conversation target and a weekly meetings-booked-and-attended target that you will know down to the number at all times (It will also live on your personal CRM scoreboard.)
What we require
If you do not meet all of these, this is not the right role for you right now, and we would rather tell you that here than after four rounds of interviews.
- At least one year of sales experience, preferably some by phone.
- A track record of working tenure. We look for at least six months at a company, more than once. Layoffs, contract ends, and seasonal roles are not held against you — just tell us plainly what happened.
- Confidence that holds up when someone is short with you. Not volume — steadiness.
- You speak clearly and get to the point. On the phone, the person who rambles loses.
- You take direction, change what you are doing, and do not relitigate it. Being coached is a normal Tuesday here, not a performance review.
- You ask questions constantly — about everything in your life. Here it would include questions about the product, the prospect, the market, and what the people ahead of you are doing differently.
- You own your results out loud. When the number is short, you can say what you did about it before anyone asks.
- You are willing to be uncomfortable on purpose, repeatedly, for a long time.
- You can be in our Provo office. This role is onsite.
Still reading? Good. Your code word is DIALTONE. You will need it in a minute.
What moves you to the top of the pile
Highly desired but not required-
- Phone selling (means
- Door-to-door sales experience. If you have knocked, you already understand the part of this job that most people quit over.
- You were the top rep in your class, your team, or your company — and you can tell us the number, the competition/situation and the ranking.
- You are competitive in a way that is obvious within about ninety seconds of meeting you, and being mid-pack genuinely bothers you.
- You have gone out and sought the on-the-job mentor before, on your own initiative, rather than waiting to be assigned one.
- You want the whole team to win, and you both ask for help and give it. We are not looking for a lone wolf who hoards a playbook.
- You speak a language in addition to English (NOT REQUIRED)
- You are interested in what this software actually does for a small practice owner. The reps who care about the customer outsell the ones who care about the commission.
What we will not pretend about
- The first sixty days are hard. Rejection is the product you handle all day.
- You will be coached often and directly. If unsolicited feedback stings for a week, this will be a rough environment.
- Activity is tracked and visible to everyone. There is a leaderboard. Some people love that and some people hate it — know which one you are.
Compensation and what you get
- Low base salary plus uncapped commission.
- We do not offer benefits yet (Still a startup… for now!)
- Structured onboarding, weekly one-on-one call coaching, and a path to Account Executive for reps who perform consistently.
How to apply — read this part twice
This is the first test. Every requirement below is intentional, helping you over that brick wall. Budget about twenty-five minutes.
Step 1 — Send one email
Send everything in a single email to [email protected]
Subject line, exactly this format:
SDR Application — [Last Name], [First Name] — [Code Word]
Example: SDR Application — Nguyen, Marcus — EXAMPLE
Step 2 — Attach your resume (all jobs you’ve held in the last 3 years)
One PDF. Name the file LastName_FirstName_Resume.pdf. No other attachments.
Step 3 — In the body of the email answer 8 questions:
Respect the word limits All answers in less than 100 words. Less is better; brevity is a job skill here and we are grading it.
1. What is the best sales result you have personally produced? Give the actual number, and tell us where you ranked against the rest of your team and how you knew.
2. Tell us about a time a manager told you to change how you were doing something and you did not agree. What exactly did you change, and what happened after?
3. Tell us about a result you owned that went badly. Not a team failure — yours. What part of it was actually within your control?
4. What languages do you speak besides English, and at what level (conversational, fluent, or native)? Write "None" if none. This is a plus, not a requirement.
Step 5 — Then wait
We reply to every complete application within five business days, yes or no. Do not call the main office line to follow up on your application — that line is for customers.
