Full Job Description

The Methodist Home has been restoring childhoods, strengthening families and building people for over 150 years. We are looking for people who would like to help us achieve our mission to provide healing and hope to children and families. The Residential Director provides oversight for the overall operations of the Valdosta/St. Marys campuses including management of staff, emotionally disturbed adolescents, and care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for all aspects of cottage management including hiring and supervision of Human Service Professional, Child Care Counselors and Office Manager at the Valdosta Region as well as the Program Manager and Office Manager at the St. Marys region.
Manages overall cottage structure including adequate program staffing/schedules, medication management, and transportation and facility management along with all health and safety drills.
Reviews incident and client grievance reports on a daily basis.
Reviews and sets forth an action plan regarding RCC reports, OPM Significant Events, etc.
Approves law enforcement involvement with clients.
Promotes the agency’s mission with the regional office throughout the region.
Ensures compliance with federal and state laws, outside regulatory and contractual requirements, all internal agency policy and procedures, and all accreditation standards.
Ensures policies and procedures are followed when crisis intervention occurs to include but not limited to notification of internal and external collaterals, applicable documentation, debriefing of staff and residents, etc.
Responsible for the development and management of the regions’ annual budget and effective use of resources.
Participates in the PQI process with the attention to the culture of safety and quality, prioritizes and implements necessary changes based on these evaluations.
Contributes to the prevention and management of challenging behaviors.
Responsible for monitoring and adjustment of the climate and milieu of the living units.
Conducts utilization reviews of client records at admission, quarterly and discharge.
Facilitates team meetings weekly.
Acts as a liaison between the Agency and external collaterals including but not limited to MAAC, Licensing, Office of Provider Management, etc.
Maintains on call professional duties for Valdosta/St. Marys as assigned.
Travels to the St. Marys region at a minimum monthly and as needed to ensure safety and quality of care.
Attends other required meetings at various sites.
Utilizes appropriate Sanctuary tools when interacting with colleagues and residents.
Adheres to the seven commitments of Sanctuary when carrying out work responsibilities.
Completes assignments in a timely and accurate manne
Is willing to take on additional responsibility in a positive manner.
Complete training necessary to perform position consistent with program and agency staff development plans.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Master’s Degree and a minimum of two years of experience in a residential facility or a bachelor’s degree and four-years experience in a residential facility.
Minimum two-years supervisory experience.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; this includes meeting quality standards for services.
Must have the ability to listen and understand the needs of residents, staff, and collaterals.
Knowledge of emotionally disturbed adolescent behavior, developmental issues, group dynamics, societal trends, and peer influences.
Working knowledge of family systems and family dynamics.
Must have a valid Driver’s License with a minimum of four-year driving history and the ability to meet and remain in good standing in accordance with Agency insurance guidelines.
Must have proficient computer knowledge.
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Ability to meet and handle the public with tact and poise.
Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
Ability to understand and consistently implement policies and procedures of the Agency.
Ability to interact and work cooperatively and effectively with other personnel and residents.
Ability to show sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural difference in the service population

Essential Physical Requirements:

Duties are performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful and potentially aggressive (physical interventions, escorts, etc.) to casual and leisurely.
Ability to successfully complete the Crisis Aggression Limitation Management training program and conduct physical interventions as taught by the instructor. Examples (1) Escorting a child by the arm to de-escalate; (2) Support a child’s movement to a seated position to the floor or to a chair; (3) Support a child in a physical intervention to the floor, on your knees and for lengthy periods of time; (4) Ability to securely and safely maintain a child in a physical intervention for extended periods of time.
Ability to assist/support/transport youth ranging in weight up to 200 pounds with/without assistance, in order to perform CALM physical intervention techniques.
Duties include bending, stooping, or kneeling for various durations of time. Duties include overhead work, reaching, pulling, and pushing items.
Necessary stamina and temperament to work with adolescents who are experiencing crisis and/or emotional and/or behavior disorders.
Specific vision abilities and acuity to include the ability to see for purposes of reading printed material, purposes of driving as well as distance vision for purposes of maintaining appropriate supervision.
Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
Duties could include driving utilizing a 12 to 15-passenger van or minivan.
Duties may include repetitive hand motions such as typing.
