The Vigilant Engine & Hook & Ladder Co., Inc. employs a paid staff of Engineers who maintain the firehouse at all times and dispatch calls for assistance. In addition, there are per-diem Paramedics who augment our response.
We are looking for a capable, confident individual with leadership abilities who possesses strong verbal and written communication skills as well as being interested in working in emergency services communications and building maintenance. Applicants must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with individuals both on the telephone and in person. Applicants will need to have or be trained in both computer aided dispatch and radio communications.
The successful candidate’s salary will be commensurate with experience and training. The Company offers a full benefits package that will be discussed as part of the interview process.
Job Title: Full Time Engineer/Dispatcher
Minimum qualifications
Minimum of 5 years membership in good standing as a firefighter in Nassau or Suffolk County
Must be able to work rotating shifts of 8 and 12 hours at a time
EMT certification is required
Must retain EMT certification length of employment
Must be and maintain a Class ‘A’ interior firefighter status, including bail-out certification, during length of employment
Must pass an OSHA firefighter physical yearly
Skills in basic vehicle mechanics
Skills in building maintenance & cleaning
Must have and maintain a valid New York State Drivers’ License
High School Graduate
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
No felony convictions
