Full Job Description

The Vern McCray Law Firm seeks a licensed, energetic and client-centered Associate Attorney to join our well-established (and growing!) family law practice in Camas, WA. The Associate Attorney position reports directly to Principal Attorney Vern McCray.

With over three decades of legal experience, Vern McCray is one of the most respected trial attorneys in Clark and Skamania Counties. We also offer customized and effective legal representation in divorce, family law, estate planning, probate law, and civil matters. Our firm proudly provides exceptional criminal defense attorney services to clients throughout Southwest Washington.

While the firm’s primary emphasis is on family law, this opportunity will also provide an Associate Attorney with exposure to a wider variety of cases including criminal defense, estate planning, and probate.

What can the Vern McCray Law Firm offer you?

A commission-based compensation package including a split with generous bonuses. The total annual compensation range depends upon performance/caseload but typically ranges between $120,000 and $180,000 per year.

The Vern McCray Law Firm office is conveniently located in downtown Camas, WA. Parking is provided.
The Associate Attorney is a regular, full-time position. Our work schedule is 8 AM – 5 PM M-F.

What are the Essential Responsibilities for the Associate Attorney- Family Law?

Offer legal counsel and effectively communicate with clients facing family law and other matters.
Draft and review legal documents, negotiate settlements, conduct legal research, and represent clients in court proceedings.
Maintain regular communication with clients and support staff to manage case schedules efficiently.
Ensure meticulous organization of case files and documentation for accurate record-keeping.
Other responsibilities as organizational needs require.

Which Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities would you bring to the Vern McCray Law Firm?

Membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association is a requirement.
Solid knowledge of Clark County Local Court Rules.
Two to five+ years’ experience litigating family law cases.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legal documents and statutes.
Approachable with a demonstrated ability to establish rapport and foster positive working relationships with clients, staff, and other stakeholders.
Organized and reliable with exceptional follow through.
Solves and de-escalate issues in a calm, effective manner.
Professional and confident with a strong work ethic and integrity.
Adept at managing competing priorities; flexible and adaptive based upon organizational needs.
Effective communication and presentation skills, written and oral.
Computer proficiency including past use of Microsoft 365 programs (including Outlook, Word, and Excel).
Capable using Zoom for video meetings.
Familiarity with Adobe and e-filing. Past use of FamilySoft document assembly software is preferred but not required.
Valid driver license. Local travel is necessary within Clark County. Occasional travel is anticipated in Skamania and Klickitat counties. Driving is an essential function of this position.
