Senior QA Specialist, Plasmid Manufacturing

About the company

The next wave of genetic medicine depends on better DNA. At Novel Bio, we're making that possible. We're a team of DNA artists, experts, and problem solvers who saw a biotech bottleneck and decided to fix it. From our headquarters in Vancouver, Washington (in the heart of the Pacific Northwest) our advanced manufacturing technology delivers high-yield, high-purity plasmid DNA: the foundation for fast-growing markets in cell and gene therapies, RNA therapeutics, and vaccines. We support our partners at every stage, from early R&D through clinical.

About the role

We are building a cGMP plasmid DNA production facility supplying critical raw material and intermediates for cell and gene therapy. Our facility design is being finalized now, and our quality system is being expanded. We are looking for an experienced, hands-on QA professional with direct plasmid DNA manufacturing experience to help us build our quality operation the right way: pragmatically, phase-appropriately, and in compliance with cGMP.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a quality system and facility from an early stage rather than inherit one. You will do the day-to-day work of QA while also advising on how we establish our QMS, facility, and processes to meet GMP requirements for plasmid manufacturing. You will provide leadership and oversight for the Quality Management System and ensure compliance with approved Quality Manual requirements and procedures. You'll thrive here if you are energized by a fast-moving startup environment, confident enough to help us get things right the first time, and comfortable rolling up your sleeves for both strategic and routine work.

What you'll do

Perform core QA activities: batch record review, deviation and CAPA management, product disposition, change control, and supplier quality.
Advise on the build-out of our quality management system, facility, and manufacturing processes to meet phase-appropriate GMP requirements for plasmid DNA production.
Apply risk-based, phase-appropriate judgment to help us translate regulatory expectations into practical, right-sized quality practices, avoiding both under-compliance and unnecessary gold-plating.
Contribute to validation strategy and execution, including facility, equipment, process, and cleaning validation.
Support internal and external audits and inspection readiness.
Author, review, and improve SOPs, policies, and batch records.
Apply Quality Risk Management tools including FMEA.
Lead and support qualification and validation activities including IQ/OQ/PQ.
Ensure effective document control, records retention, and good documentation practices.
Lead deviation investigations, root cause analysis, and CAPA implementation.
Support GMP training programs and training effectiveness.
Serve as QA approver for procedures, protocols, reports, and training records as authorized.
Support development of quality agreements.
Support oversight of laboratory controls, calibration and maintenance programs, manufacturing, and supplier qualification.

What you bring

Direct, hands-on QA experience in a cGMP plasmid DNA production environment. (This is essential.)
Strong working knowledge of GMP regulations and guidance as they apply to plasmid DNA as a raw material/intermediate for cell and gene therapy, and the judgment to apply them in a phase-appropriate, risk-based way.
Experience across core QA disciplines: batch record review, deviations/CAPA, change control, disposition, supplier quality, and validation.
Experience authoring commissioning, qualification, and validation (CQV) documentation, including validation master plans (VMPs), user requirement specifications, and IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and reports.
Comfort operating in an early-stage, resource-constrained, and occasionally chaotic startup environment.
Confidence and communication skills to advise senior stakeholders and influence how we set things up.
Willingness to be reachable after hours in the event of a manufacturing emergency. (Not a shift role; occasional only.)
