Alabama Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)—Telehealth Job Overview
VieMed Healthcare Staffing (VHS) is seeking an Alabama-licensed
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) to provide evidence-based, trauma-informed counseling through a statewide school-based telecounseling initiative.
The LPC will provide virtual mental health counseling to eligible Alabama public-school students and/or school-district employees through the prime vendor’s secure telehealth and clinical documentation platforms. This remote opportunity supports improved access to behavioral health care for participants who may otherwise experience geographic, transportation or scheduling barriers.
Position Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Location: Remote; clinician must be physically located and authorized to practice in Alabama as required by applicable law and licensure standards
Service Population: Eligible Alabama public-school students and school-district employees
Schedule: Flexible; based on program demand, clinician availability and assigned appointments
Compensation: Fee-for-service or contracted rate structure to be provided
Caseload Disclaimer: Appointment availability and caseload volume will be based on participating school systems, participant utilization, clinician availability and program needs. No minimum caseload, scheduled hours or number of encounters is guaranteed unless otherwise stated in the applicable contractor agreement.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide individual, family and/or group counseling through secure telehealth technology, as authorized by the program.
- Conduct clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans within the LPC’s professional scope of practice.
- Deliver evidence-based, developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed counseling interventions.
- Serve children, adolescents and/or adult school-district employees based on the clinician’s education, training and demonstrated competency.
- Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation in the designated electronic health record.
- Follow the prime vendor’s procedures for scheduling, case assignment, consent verification, documentation, participant communication and care coordination.
- Verify that applicable consent requirements have been completed before initiating services.
- Monitor treatment progress and modify interventions based on participant needs and response to treatment.
- Coordinate with parents or legal guardians, school personnel and other providers when clinically appropriate and properly authorized.
- Recognize participants requiring a higher level of care and follow established referral and escalation procedures.
- Respond to safety concerns according to the program’s suicide-risk, crisis-response and emergency protocols.
- Fulfill Alabama mandatory-reporting obligations concerning suspected child abuse or neglect.
- Maintain confidentiality and safeguard information in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, Alabama law and applicable professional ethics.
- Maintain professional boundaries when serving students, families and school-district employees.
- Participate in required clinical orientation, platform training, compliance education and program meetings.
- Maintain a private, secure and professional environment for all telehealth sessions.
- Report privacy, technology, documentation, safety or service-delivery concerns through established channels.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling or a related field that satisfies Alabama licensure requirements.
- Active, unrestricted Alabama Licensed Professional Counselor license in good standing.
- Ability to practice independently within the scope established by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling.
- Demonstrated experience conducting assessments, developing treatment plans and providing mental health counseling.
- Knowledge of evidence-based and trauma-informed counseling practices.
- Strong clinical judgment, interpersonal communication and documentation skills.
- Competency using telehealth, electronic health record and web-based communication systems.
- Ability to satisfy all background-screening, credentialing and onboarding requirements established by VHS, the prime vendor and participating entities.
- Reliable internet connection, appropriate technology and a private workspace meeting program security requirements.
- Professional liability insurance meeting contractual requirements, if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience counseling children, adolescents, educators or other school personnel.
- Experience addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, adjustment concerns, occupational stress or burnout.
- Previous telebehavioral health experience.
- Experience with Medicaid populations and documentation requirements.
- Active Alabama Medicaid provider enrollment or provider identification number, if required by the program.
- Familiarity with school-based mental health services, Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports or community mental health programs.
- Experience collaborating with parents, schools and multidisciplinary teams.
- Training in suicide-risk assessment, trauma-focused counseling or crisis intervention.
Scope Clarification
The LPC is responsible for providing professional counseling within the assigned role and individual scope of licensure. The prime vendor retains responsibility for program administration, participant enrollment, eligibility determination, scheduling, case assignment, consent management, platform administration, billing, clinical protocols, quality oversight and crisis-response infrastructure.
