Full Job Description

Now Hiring a Food Service Director at Big Oak Rehab and Healthcare Center!

The Food Service Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the dietary department to ensure residents receive nutritious, high-quality meals that meet regulatory requirements and individual dietary needs. This role manages food service staff, menu planning, food purchasing, budgeting, sanitation practices, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting resident satisfaction and a positive dining experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Direct, supervise, and support all dietary department employees.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate dietary staff.
Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Conduct regular staff meetings and ongoing education programs.

Food Service Operations:

Plan, coordinate, and oversee meal preparation and service.
Ensure meals are prepared according to physician orders, therapeutic diets, and resident preferences.
Monitor food quality, presentation, temperature, and portion control.
Maintain appropriate food inventory levels and oversee purchasing activities.
Work collaboratively with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to address resident nutritional concerns.

Compliance & Safety:

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and facility regulations.
Maintain sanitation standards in accordance with health department requirements.
Implement and monitor food safety procedures, including proper storage, handling, and preparation practices.
Prepare for and participate in regulatory surveys and inspections.

Budget & Inventory Management:

Develop and manage departmental budgets.
Monitor food and supply costs while maintaining quality standards.
Oversee inventory controls and minimize waste.
Review invoices and maintain accurate records of purchases and expenditures.

Resident Satisfaction:

Engage with residents to gather feedback regarding meals and dining services.
Address dietary concerns, complaints, and special requests promptly.
Promote an enjoyable dining experience that enhances resident quality of life.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Food Service Management, Nutrition, Culinary Arts, or related field preferred.
Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) certification preferred or required based on state regulations.
Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in food service, preferably in a healthcare, long-term care, or senior living setting.
Knowledge of therapeutic diets and long-term care dietary regulations.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform routine kitchen duties as needed.
