Physical requirements: This is agile work requiring the exertion of up to and exceeding 50 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Certification: Fire Instructor I, ICS 300 (Within One Calendar Year), Driver/Pump Operator, Hazmat Operations, EVOC, EMT, CPR, Valid Virginia Driver’s License, ITR Module II (Within One Calendar Year)
Additional Certification and/or Requirements for this Position: Fire & Life Safety Educator 1035 II, Youth Fire Setter Intervention II (Within One Calendar Year)
Job Summary: Performs technical, administrative, and protective service work in the areas of Fire & Life Safety, public education, and other related areas.
Perform highly professional and skilled firefighting, emergency medical & hazardous materials tasks in supervising the activities of equipment and personnel on the emergency scene. Serve as incident commander in directing activities at emergency incidents until relieved by a higher-ranking officer (volunteer or county employee).
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential duties:

Develops, coordinates, and assists with Fire & Life Safety public education programs

Responds to emergency incidents as required and/or when necessary

Responsible to maintain files, records, and submit reports

Works closely with internal and external stakeholders in a collaborative manner while supporting their activities in the best interests of Rockingham County

Responsible to follow and enforce County department rules, regulations and safety procedures related to work performance

Maintain physical conditioning through a weight and cardiac training program

Maintain knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations regarding privacy practices and release of information

Pass a NFPA 1582 physical administered by a physician prior to employment and annually

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Department Chief Officer
