Summary
The UPS Maintenance & Service Technical Lead is responsible for delivering advanced technical expertise, troubleshooting support, and operational leadership across all Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) maintenance and service activities. This role serves as the primary technical escalation point for technicians, customers, and partner organizations, ensuring that all UPS systems are maintained, repaired, and supported to the highest standards of reliability and safety. The Technical Lead performs a combination of field service work, remote support, and internal coordination, acting as the central resource for complex diagnostics, system evaluations, and technical decision‑making. This includes guiding technicians through challenging service events, supporting customers during outages or equipment failures, and providing detailed insight into UPS performance, maintenance needs, and corrective actions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports the development and execution of the organization’s technical roadmap for UPS maintenance and service
Aligns service capabilities, technician skill development, and technical processes with broader business objectives to ensure reliable, efficient, and scalable UPS support across all customer environments.
Provides day‑to‑day guidance, supervision, and mentorship to technicians, serving as the primary subject matter expert for all UPS‑related inquiries from employees, customers, and third‑party partners.
Responsibilities include performing onsite maintenance, testing, repairs, and commissioning work as needed, while also assisting with report generation, sourcing parts and components, offering technical support, and participating in team meetings.
Ensures technicians receive ongoing training and support to strengthen their troubleshooting and service capabilities.
Assists in managing service‑related projects from planning through completion, ensuring that work is executed on schedule, and in accordance with quality expectations.
Coordinates field activities, supporting installation or upgrade projects, and ensuring that all technical requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsible for upholding technical standards, safety protocols, and quality assurance practices across all UPS service operations.
Ensures compliance with OSHA requirements, NFPA 70E electrical safety standards, manufacturer specifications, and internal procedures.
Promotes safe work habits, accurate documentation, and consistent service quality to maintain system reliability and regulatory compliance.
Acts as the final escalation point for complex technical challenges
Provides advanced diagnostic support and coordinates emergency response efforts to minimize downtime during power failures or UPS malfunctions.
Supports technicians, customers, and third‑party service providers with real‑time troubleshooting guidance, system evaluations, and corrective action recommendations.
Stays current with emerging UPS technologies, battery chemistries, monitoring systems, and power electronics.
Evaluates new tools, service methods, and technical advancements that can improve operational efficiency, service quality, and competitive positioning.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Electronics preferred; Associate's degree + 2 years relevant experience, Military Electronics Training equivalent, Trade School Training equivalent with 3+ years’ relevant experience in this field, or 5+ years’ relevant experience in this field will be considered.
Extensive, progressive experience in electrical power design, power management, and facilities or data center operations. OEM certifications from manufacturers such as Eaton, Vertiv, APC/Schneider, and Mitsubishi are considered a strong advantage and may be required for certain service tasks.
Skills: Deep expertise in electrical power design, battery technologies, power distribution systems, and industry standards such as the NEC, AREMA, and NYC Building Code. Strong communication, negotiation, project management, and problem-solving abilities; the ability to remain calm under pressure is essential.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

It requires a mix of mostly office-based strategic work and occasional on-site presence for project oversight, field verification, or emergency response.
