Technical Writer/Editor — Aviation Command & Control (C5ISR) Support

POSITION SUMMARY

Federal Strategies, LLC (Fed-Strat) is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to support a dedicated task area under the TECOM Range and Training Area Management (RTAM) Support contract at Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA. This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and producing technical documentation related to Aviation Command and Control (C2) projects, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Range Cards. This is a newly established function requiring specialized experience in Aviation Command and Control or a related C5ISR field.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate the production of technical documents, SOPs, and Range Cards with contractor and Government project engineers and management, ensuring alignment with project requirements and deadlines.
Incorporate AutoCAD drawings, digital photographs, and scanned images into Microsoft Word document templates provided by the Government.
Perform independent technical research and communicate with various subject matter sources as needed to complete technical documents, SOPs, and Range Cards.
Track technical document review drafts and oversee final production in accordance with established project deadlines.
Attend technical document In-Progress Review (IPR) meetings, representing the technical writing/editing function and incorporating stakeholder feedback.
Write and edit technical documentation, procedures, and guidelines for C5ISR systems or equipment, SOPs, and Range Cards, applying the grammar, usage, and composition standards of The Chicago Manual of Style; write SOPs and Range Cards in accordance with applicable Marine Corps range certification guidance.
Deliver technical documents, SOPs, or Range Cards on a recurring basis to the Government for approval, meeting established review and turnaround timelines.
Maintain version control and tracking of all technical documentation in progress, ensuring timely routing for Government review and approval.
Support broader RTAM administrative and correspondence functions as needed, consistent with Fed-Strat's integrated program support model.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated experience in Aviation Command and Control or a related C5ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) field.
Proven technical writing and editing experience producing procedures, guidelines, or technical documentation for military systems, equipment, or operations.
Experience with AutoCAD sufficient to review, interpret, and incorporate AutoCAD drawings into technical document deliverables.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills; ability to conduct independent research and synthesize input from multiple technical stakeholders.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and standard MS Office/Adobe document production tools.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
Ability to work on-site at MCB Quantico, VA during normal Government business hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Communication, Journalism, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent combined experience in technical writing and Aviation C2/C5ISR domains will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Prior experience writing or editing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or Range Cards for USMC or other DoD range operations.
Familiarity with Marine Corps range safety and certification directives.
Prior experience supporting a USMC, Navy, or other DoD technical documentation program in an in-progress-review (IPR) or configuration-controlled documentation environment.
Ability to obtain a Secret clearan

WORK ENVIRONMENT & TRAVEL

This position is based primarily at MCB Quantico, VA, in Government-provided office space, with additional work performed at Federal Strategies, LLC facilities as required. The role does not currently carry a dedicated OCONUS or CONUS travel requirement, though the employee may be asked to support broader RTAM program travel on an as-needed, Government-approved basis.
