R&D Machinist

Shift: M-F 7:15AM - 4:00PM

Location: Virginia Beach, VA

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

The R&D Machinist is an entry-level professional who operates and assists in setting up machine tools (such as CNC mills, lathes, and grinders) to produce precision parts. Operating under direct supervision, they focus on loading materials, conducting basic quality inspections, and performing routine machine maintenance. Is required to make complex setups and precise alignment of work pieces in the machine and manufacture to extremely close tolerances as required in the manufacture of a large variety of precision parts made from various materials and configurations.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

 Machine Operation: Load and unload raw materials and parts into CNC machines and monitor the machining process to ensure it runs safely and correctly.

 Quality Inspection: Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, and gauge pins) to check parts against blueprint drawings and verify they meet tolerance specifications.

 Routine Maintenance: Perform basic preventive upkeep, which includes checking coolant levels, lubricating moving parts, and keeping the work area clean.

 Part Finishing: Perform manual bench operations such as deburring, sawing, and hand-fitting components.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Minimum Requirements:

 High School Diploma or GED

 1-2 years of experience in Machine Shop/Job Shop Prototype Machining and Assembly Environment Experience

Preferred Experience/Skills/Certifications:

 Associate degree from accredited college or university or completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship

 1-3 year CNC Programming and Machining Experience

Key Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

 The ability to read and write English.

 Introductory competence in shop math such as working with fractions and decimals.

 A basic knowledge of inspection tools and their proper use.

 A basic knowledge of hand tools and mechanical applications regarding nuts and bolts.

 A basic knowledge of part holding methods and procedures.

 A basic knowledge of deburr tools and methods.

 The ability to interact with computers and CNC controls at a basic level.
