Position Summary: Hybrid | Based in Houston or Dallas Fort Worth Area
The Senior Accountant performs professional accounting work that supports the accuracy, integrity, and timely reporting of StrikerRx financial information. This position is responsible for general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close activities, financial reporting support, accounts payable and receivable accounting, cash reconciliations, inventory accounting, and audit documentation.
Working closely with the Accounting Manager and cross-functional partners, the Senior Accountant maintains complete and accurate financial records, investigates variances, strengthens internal controls, and helps build scalable accounting processes for a growing healthcare and pharmacy organization.
Essential Functions:
General Ledger & Month-End Close
- Prepare, review, and post recurring and nonrecurring journal entries with complete supporting documentation.
- Maintain assigned general ledger accounts and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in the appropriate accounting period.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items within established timelines.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
- Analyze account activity, identify unusual trends or discrepancies, and recommend corrective entries when appropriate.
- Maintain organized close schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare budget-to-actual and period-over-period variance analysis for assigned accounts or departments.
- Provide accurate financial data and explanations in response to management and departmental inquiries.
- Support recurring financial dashboards and key performance reporting.
- Ensure reporting data agrees to the general ledger and is supported by appropriate documentation.
Accounts Payable & Vendor Accounting
- Review invoice coding, approvals, supporting documentation, and posting accuracy.
- Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies, duplicate charges, credits, and unapplied payments.
- Support payment processing and maintain complete vendor accounting records.
- Assist with vendor setup controls, tax documentation, and year-end Form 1099 reporting.
- Partner with operational teams to resolve invoice and purchasing issues.
Accounts Receivable & Cash Accounting
- Record and reconcile customer payments, deposits, credit card activity, and other cash receipts.
- Reconcile accounts receivable subledgers and investigate unapplied cash, credit balances, and account discrepancies.
- Support aging reviews, collection reporting, and customer account reconciliations.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations and resolve outstanding items promptly.
- Maintain accurate cash activity documentation and support cash flow reporting.
Inventory & Pharmacy Accounting
- Assist with inventory reconciliations, cycle-count adjustments, and inventory valuation support.
- Reconcile pharmacy purchasing and inventory activity to the general ledger and supporting systems.
- Prepare cost of goods sold and inventory-related schedules as assigned.
- Investigate inventory variances and collaborate with Pharmacy Operations, Purchasing, and Finance to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain documentation supporting inventory adjustments and accounting conclusions.
Payroll & Employee-Related Accounting
- Reconcile payroll registers, payroll liabilities, benefit deductions, and payroll-related general ledger accounts.
- Prepare or review payroll journal entries and related accruals.
- Support accounting for paid time off, bonuses, commissions, payroll taxes, and employee benefits.
- Partner with Human Resources and payroll providers to investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee compensation and payroll information.
Compliance, Audit & Internal Controls
- Perform assigned responsibilities in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, Company policies, and established internal controls.
- Maintain audit-ready workpapers and respond timely to internal and external audit requests.
- Assist with financial statement audits, tax preparation, regulatory reporting, and other compliance activities.
- Identify control gaps or process risks and communicate concerns to the Accounting Manager.
- Protect confidential financial, employee, customer, and business information.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain accurate accounting system data, account mappings, and recurring schedules.
- Document accounting procedures and update standard work instructions as processes change.
- Identify opportunities to automate reconciliations, improve reporting, reduce manual effort, and strengthen controls.
- Participate in accounting system implementations, testing, integrations, and special projects.
- Provide responsive service to internal partners while maintaining appropriate accounting controls.
Success Measures (Key Performance Indicators)
- Assigned journal entries and close activities completed accurately and within established deadlines.
- 100% of assigned balance sheet reconciliations completed monthly with timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Financial schedules and reports delivered accurately and on schedule.
- Accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank, and cash transactions recorded with a high level of accuracy.
- Inventory and payroll accounting reconciliations completed in accordance with the monthly close calendar.
- Audit requests supported with complete, organized, and readily accessible documentation.
- No material control deficiencies attributable to assigned responsibilities.
- Accounting inquiries and discrepancies researched and resolved within agreed service levels.
- Process improvements implemented to strengthen accuracy, efficiency, documentation, or scalability.
Decision Making & Scope of Responsibility
Exercises professional judgment in recording transactions, preparing reconciliations, researching variances, applying established accounting policies, and maintaining financial documentation. The Senior Accountant is expected to identify and resolve routine accounting issues independently while escalating unusual transactions, significant discrepancies, policy interpretations, control concerns, or material financial matters to the Accounting Manager.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive professional accounting experience.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial statement concepts.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
- Experience using an accounting system or enterprise resource planning platform.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare, pharmacy, manufacturing, distribution, or other inventory-intensive industry experience.
- Experience with inventory accounting, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
- Experience supporting external audits and tax preparation.
- Experience with QuickBooks online, NetSuite, or a comparable accounting platform.
- CPA candidate or progress toward a professional accounting certification preferred.
