Weld & Fabrication Supervisor

Position Summary
The Weld & Fabrication Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and consistent execution of daily welding and fabrication operations. This position provides direct shop-floor leadership while ensuring work is completed safely, meets quality requirements, and supports the production schedule.
The Supervisor is expected to maintain an active presence on the shop floor, set clear expectations, remove barriers to production, address performance issues, and develop the team.
Primary ResponsibilitiesSafety
- Lead daily operations with safety as the first priority.
- Ensure employees follow required PPE, safe work practices, equipment procedures, and company safety policies.
- Participate in safety discussions, job hazard assessments, and non-standard work risk assessments as required.
- Stop work when unsafe conditions or behaviors are identified and ensure hazards are addressed before work resumes.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and support corrective actions.
- Maintain good housekeeping and ensure employees are properly trained and qualified for assigned work.
Production & Operations
- Execute the daily production schedule and clearly communicate priorities to the team.
- Assign employees and resources based on workload, skills, equipment availability, and production requirements.
- Monitor production performance throughout the shift and correct course when needed.
- Identify and resolve constraints affecting safety, quality, productivity, or schedule attainment.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Management when additional support is required.
- Ensure materials, drawings, tooling, fixtures, consumables, and equipment are available to support production.
- Maintain accurate production reporting and communicate significant risks or issues to management.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure welded and fabricated products meet drawing, specification, dimensional, and workmanship requirements.
- Verify employees follow applicable weld procedures, work instructions, drawings, and quality requirements.
- Contain nonconforming material and prevent defective product from progressing through the process.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities and ensure actions are implemented and sustained.
- Support improvements to workflow, material movement, tooling, fixtures, standard work, and production processes.
- Use production and quality data to identify recurring losses and improvement opportunities.
People Leadership
- Provide clear expectations and direction to employees throughout the shift.
- Hold employees accountable for safety, attendance, quality, productivity, behavior, and job performance.
- Address performance concerns promptly and consistently.
- Coach employees to understand and solve problems rather than simply accepting recurring constraints or excuses.
- Develop employees through training, feedback, cross-training, and ongoing performance discussions.
- Support onboarding, employee evaluations, advancement decisions, and disciplinary actions as required.
- Maintain professional and respectful communication with employees and other departments.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in welding, fabrication, structural steel, metalworking, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Previous lead, supervisory, or demonstrated team-leadership experience.
- Working knowledge of common welding and fabrication processes.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, dimensions, and work instructions.
- Understanding of basic production planning, quality control, and manufacturing workflow.
- Strong communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use production reporting systems and standard business applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory experience in a welding or fabrication environment.
- Experience with MIG/GMAW and structural fabrication.
- Knowledge of applicable welding codes, weld procedures, and welder qualification requirements.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, standard work, root cause analysis, or other continuous improvement methods.
Physical / Work Environment
This position operates primarily in an active welding and fabrication environment and requires regular presence on the production floor. The position may involve prolonged standing and walking and exposure to welding operations, noise, material-handling equipment, fabrication machinery, and normal industrial shop conditions. Required PPE must be worn in designated areas.
Leadership Standard
The Weld & Fabrication Supervisor owns the performance of the assigned area. The expectation is not simply to report problems upward, but to understand the issue, engage the appropriate people, take action within their authority, and escalate when additional support is required.
Pay: $64,972.65 - $70,972.65 per year
