Job Title: Before & After School Group Leader Leadership Level: Leader
Job Type: Part-Time Pay Range: $17.15-$18.00/hour
Location: Ring Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Love Elementary, Southwestern Elementary and Lakewood YMCA.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Before & After School Group Leader is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the School Age Child Care (SACC) program under the direction of the Site Coordinator. This position ensures that a safe, educational, and fun Christian-based environment is maintained for all school-age children. The Group Leader plans and leads age-appropriate activities, fosters positive relationships, and supports the YMCA’s mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be at least 18 years of age with previous experience working with children under 13.
· Must have completed medical clearance including Tuberculin test results.
· Must successfully pass all required background checks (local police, NY State Central Clearance, OCFS, fingerprints).
· Must complete 15 hours of training within the first 6 months, including YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Staff Training, and 30 hours within the first 2 years and every two years thereafter.
· Must obtain Adult/Child CPR and First Aid certification within the first 6 months of employment.
· Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
· Strong communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
· Ability to maintain physical condition suitable for active engagement with children and performance of assigned duties.
· Ability to communicate with others and understand information in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
· Ability to record and complete all required documentation including but not limited to daily check reports, symptom records, behavior management plans, unacceptable behavior reports and lesson plans.
· Availability to attend and participate in bi-weekly staff meetings, family events, open houses, and related activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Specific Functions
1. Perform daily set-up and clean-up duties
2. Assist students with homework and academic activities.
3. Create a welcoming environment for all participants.
4. Prepare and submit written daily lesson plans and lead a group of children in daily pre-planned, age appropriate activities that are designed to meet the program goals and grand requirements for youth development.
5. Able to approach any child who is disregarding the rules, encourages students and/or explain disciplinary methods and follows through with set disciplinary methods.
6. Record and report any disciplinary actions taken.
7. Supervise children during transitions and maintain required ratios at all times.
8. Keep accurate attendance and program records.
9. Ensure children’s physical, emotional, and academic needs are met.
10. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment.
11. Identify, handle and report any hazards to ensure the safety of each child.
12. Supervise large and small group activities per ratio standards.
13. Maintain a positive image in representation of the program and the YMCA.
14. Build positive relationships with parents, families, and school partners.
15. Collaborate with other Group Leaders and program staff to plan and deliver daily lessons.
16. Plan and facilitate age appropriate, engaging activities for a group of students during daily attendance.
17. Participate in family events and open house events as they are scheduled.
18. Attend all mandatory meetings and required trainings.
19. Adhere to LEAPS, 21st Century, and NYS OCFS rules and regulations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Required for essential duties; reasonable accommodations will be considered under the Americans with Disabilities Act; this list is not all-inclusive and may be supplemented as necessary.
· Active supervision of children indoors and outdoors.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 lbs.
· Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.
· May require occasional evening or weekend hours for events or trainings.
