The Department of Nursing at Providence College (also referred to as “the College” or “PC”) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing to join our growing and mission-driven program beginning August 2027. We are seeking an innovative and student-centered educator with expertise in Medical Surgical Nursing who is excited to shape the future of nursing education at PC. The ideal candidate will be able to make meaningful connections between best practices in nursing education, a commitment to the dignity of the whole person, and the Catholic mission and identity of the College. The successful faculty member will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering high-impact clinical experiences that prepare undergraduate nursing students to lead with excellence, compassion, and integrity. They will collaborate closely with an enthusiastic team of faculty and professional staff to advance our cutting-edge teaching and simulation facilities and contribute to a dynamic curriculum that integrates leadership development, evidence-based practice, and holistic patient care. The new faculty member will teach Medical Surgical Nursing I and Medical Surgical Nursing II Clinicals. Clinical Nursing faculty at PC contribute to college and professional service in accordance with expectations for clinical faculty which include teaching excellence and service to the college. If desired, scholarship can also be a component of the role and mentoring in this area is provided through the Department of Nursing. Candidates with an earned master’s and professional clinical training in the medical surgical
nursing specialty are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing will report to the Department Chair and provide high-quality undergraduate clinical instruction. Primary responsibilities include developing, delivering, and assessing clinical courses and experiential learning activities that reflect evidence-based practice and support the mission of Providence College. The medical-surgical faculty member will collaborate closely with simulation, lab, and didactic faculty to ensure alignment between didactic content, skills acquisition, simulation based learning, and clinical application. Because nursing skills, clinical judgment, and patient care concepts are integrated throughout the medical surgical nursing sequence, this faculty member will play an important role in supporting curricular continuity across classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical
learning environments. Additional duties include advising undergraduate nursing students, contributing to curriculum development, and participating in departmental and college services such as committee work, program review, and accreditation activities. The faculty member is expected to support students’ professional growth by fostering leadership skills, clinical judgment, and research literacy within a collaborative, student-centered environment.
A doctoral degree is required for this faculty appointment.

The salary range for this position is between $80,000-$90,000.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in nursing required; doctoral preparation preferred.
- Unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Rhode Island or eligibility for
licensure in Rhode Island; if teaching clinical outside Rhode Island, licensure
must be held in the state in which clinical instruction occurs.
- Demonstrated expertise in medical-surgical nursing and the ability to support
students in applying theory to clinical practice.
- Experience in clinical teaching, precepting, mentoring, or supervising nursing
students or nurses in a clinical setting.
- Ability to support student learning, clinical judgment development, professional
formation, and safe patient care in the clinical environment.
- Commitment to the mission of the College and to working collaboratively with
faculty, students, and clinical partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctoral preparation in nursing or a related field.
- Prior experience teaching nursing students in clinical, laboratory, simulation, or
didactic settings.
- Experience with clinical course coordination, student evaluation, remediation,
and competency-based assessment.
- Familiarity with AACN Essentials, clinical judgment development, NCLEX-RN
preparation, and contemporary nursing education standards.
- Experience integrating clinical learning with simulation, skills laboratory, and
classroom content.
- Familiarity with CCNE accreditation standards, program evaluation, and
continuous quality improvement processes.
- Experience working collaboratively with clinical partners, faculty, and students
to support safe, high-quality clinical education.
