As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Human Resources Manager to help build our team, strengthen our organization, and support our continued growth.

Position Summary

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading all Human Resources functions for Sturgeon, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, employee development, and organizational planning.

Reporting directly to the Owner, this position serves as a member of the leadership team and partners with managers throughout the company to recruit, develop, and retain outstanding employees while helping define roles and responsibilities, improve organizational structure, and build the people, processes, and systems needed to support the company's continued growth.

This is a hands-on position. The successful candidate will build strong relationships with drivers, mechanics, office staff, supervisors, and leadership while serving as a trusted advisor throughout the organization.

What You'll DoRecruiting & Hiring

Recruit, interview, and hire qualified drivers, mechanics, and office staff.
Develop effective recruiting strategies to attract high-quality candidates.
Build relationships with CDL schools, trade schools, community organizations, and recruiting partners.
Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified candidates.
Coordinate interviews, background checks, drug testing, MVR reviews, and new hire paperwork.
Attend job fairs and recruiting events as needed.

Employee Onboarding & Retention

Lead the onboarding process for all new employees.
Meet with new employees at 30 and 60 days to ensure they are adjusting well and address any concerns.
Work with managers to improve employee retention and engagement.
Develop and recommend initiatives that strengthen employee engagement and reduce turnover.

Employee Relations

Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers.
Build positive relationships throughout the company.
Assist managers with coaching, performance management, documentation, and employee concerns.
Help resolve workplace issues in a fair, professional, and confidential manner.
Promote a positive, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.

Organizational Development & Workforce Planning

Develop, update, and maintain job descriptions for all company positions.
Partner with department managers and ownership to clearly define job responsibilities, expectations, reporting relationships, and areas of accountability.
Help establish an organizational structure that supports company growth and operational efficiency.
Assist managers in setting performance expectations and identifying employee development opportunities.
Partner with leadership on succession planning and identifying future leaders within the organization.
Recommend improvements to HR policies, procedures, and best practices that support employee success and company goals.

HR Administration & Compliance

Maintain employee records and HR documentation.
Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and all applicable federal and state employment laws.
Maintain and update the Employee Handbook and HR policies.
Coordinate workers' compensation claims, unemployment claims, leave administration, and other HR-related matters.
Partner with the Safety Department to support compliant hiring and employment practices.

QualificationsRequired

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
Five or more years of progressive Human Resources experience, including recruiting, employee relations, onboarding, and HR compliance.
Experience recruiting and supporting employees in an operations-focused environment.
Strong understanding of employment law and HR best practices.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
Must be a self-starter who exercises sound judgment, maintains confidentiality, and can work independently while partnering effectively with the Owner and department managers.

Preferred

Experience in transportation, manufacturing, construction, distribution, industrial, or other operations-focused industries.
Experience recruiting drivers, mechanics, skilled trades, or other hourly employees.
Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations is a plus.
