Our growing General Surgery Practice is seeking a skilled Medical Billing & Coding Specialist to join our team. We are looking for a reliable, motivated, highly organized individual that can multi-task, and work under pressure. We are willing to train the right person, but the best candidate must have an eye for detail, have a positive attitude & be a team player. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately and efficiently submitting medical claims to insurance companies, as well as following up on unpaid or rejected claims. The Medical Billing & Coding Specialist will also work closely with patients to answer billing questions and resolve any issues. It is essential to have the highest quality of character, and have a positive, professional attitude. We understand that empowering & inspiring our staff is how to retain the best people on our team!

Ideal Attributes:
· Certified CPC and/or CPMA (AAPC or AHIMA)
· Physician Charge Coding (CPT, HCPC and ICD-10)
· Medical Terminology
· Experience with General Surgery and G.I. Procedure Coding

Job Responsibilities:
· Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations
· Review notes from patient encounters and code them to ensure accurate assignment of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM codes, and modifiers per current coding guidelines and payor regulations
· Efficiently review provider communications and documentation to ensure completeness and prompt billing
· Submit insurance claims and process payments to and from various insurance companies either electronically or by paper
· Verify insurance eligibility and benefits and obtain all necessary prior authorizations
· Confirm all prior authorization standards for insurance companies bi-annually
· Collaborate with clinical staff to implement and improve workflow for provider documentation and reimbursement efficiency
· Scan, file, attach EOBS, chart notes, etc. into EMR
· Resolve insurance denials and discrepancies in collaboration with the billing team and providers
· Perform various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers
· Process and apply refunds to insurance companies and patients
· Consult with Self-Pay patients and provide Good Faith Estimates
· Provide excellent customer service by answering questions from patients and insurance companies
· Assist in resolving patient billing complaints
· Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications:
1+ year of outpatient or other medical related experience preferred
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
· Keen attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
· Able to work independently and as a team player to complete tasks in a timely manner
· Excellent character, patience, kindness, dependability, and loyalty
· Contribute to large work volume with high level of accuracy and quality
· Demonstrate professional pleasant demeanor and a service oriented mindset
· Proactive problem-solving skills
· Criminal background check clearance/fingerprint clearance
· Must hold valid coding certification (e.g. CPC, CCS)
· Familiarity with billing software and electronic health records systems
· Outpatient billing experience preferred.

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Some college, with emphasis on Medical Coding, Medical Terminology and Basic Human Anatomy preferred.
Certified CPC and/or CPMA (AAPC or AHIMA)
